Woodies: Out-&-back or Twister?

So which do you prefer in a wooden coaster, and why??

Personally I like the out-and-back ones (particularly the old classic ones, especially after a gentle rain!) Out-and-back coasters generally have more bunny hills, which spells a-i-r-t-i-m-e!

I haven't been on any successful twisters to have an opinion. I've been on Mean Streak, of course, but so many new ones have been built recently.

I prefer any wood over steel. The Phoenix at Knoebles is out and back and it is great. Twister is a great ride as well. I guess alot debends on the park and time of day riding.
I rode the Wildcat at Hershey early in the day and it was slow then at night it was a totally different ride! I rode Hercules before it was braked and it was awsome and rode it this past season with the trims everywhere and it is horrible.

My wood coaster experience is limited to 4 coasters. 2 out-n-backs and 2 twisters. The out-n-backs are Judge Roy Scream at Six Flags Over Texas and Blue Streak at Cedar Point. The twisters are Texas Giant and Mean Streak at the same parks respectively. I like Judge Roy and I like Blue Streak a lot, but I really like the crossovers and head choppers of twisters. I like Mean Streak, but I LOVE the Texas Giant! I got to ride the Giant yesterday for the first time since '98, and I remembered instantly why it is such a killer coaster!

I love um all.I find this question a little to hard to answer so I geuss I`ll just say that my two favorite woodies are the Beast & Shivering Timbers.

Out and back all the way:
the Beast
Blue Streak
the Racer
Thunderbolt
Big Dipper
Plus, you get to see so much more when you travel further away from the station.

Both have there advantages.
Out and back= lots of speed and airtime.
Twister (Cyclone type)= Lots of turns and also airtime.
Then you have the woodie looper (SOB)= dont know yet but cant wait to find out!!!!!!

Well, my favorite ride of all time, Cyclone, is a twister, but after that I seem to prefer out-n-back. Go figure.

DÉJÀ VU – Fast Forward…Blast Backwards!

It's hard to say for me, my experience has been so limited. For the sake of this post though, I'll say twister, since Roar at SFMW is my favorite wooden coaster. That thing gives a great ride everytime. Peace. :)

I have had more experience with out-and-backs, or wooden coasters with out-and-back sections, as opposed to true twisters. Having ridden twisters such as Knoebels Twister, the Hershey Wildcat and Lightning Racer, and the Riverside Cyclone, I can say that I enjoy the laterals and dizzying tangle of track immensely, but not quite as much as a healthy dose of airtime.

There is just something to be said for the "uplifting" feeling that coasters such as the Phoenix, Great Escape Comet and Boulder Dash provide. When the park is empty, its fun to ride over and over again and try to find the seat that offers the most airtime! Its not always the most obvious seating choice... take the Phoenix's third seat, for example.

Out and backs. The more drops the better.

I have been on Thunder Road at Paramount Carowinds and I've also been on Judge Roy Scream as well as the Texas Giant. Right now I'd have to go with the Giant's twisting action. But I just loved Thunder Road's out and back airtime as well so call it a draw.

TITAN RULES!

No doubt TWISTERS. Not only are they more pretty to look at (something about all those curves) but they offer the whole gamut of experiences, airtime, laterals, quick direction changes and an abundance of headchoppers. If you've never ridden a good twister, I recommend a CI-clone (but not psyclone) or any of the GCI coasters (Gwazi-Lion will show you how much air a twister can have).

Out and backs....but just SLIGHTLY over twisters!

I'm an airwhore so I prefer the out and backs. That doesn't mean that I don't like twisters.

Are we talking about the type of woodie, or the layout?

Either way I prefer out-and-back.
