Planning a trip to a midwest park? Phone first!

Due to the recent, frequent and heavy rains we have been getting here in the midwest, I thought I would advise anyone planning on taking a trip here within the next week or so to call ahead. Rivers are flooding and some major highways are closed. Some communities have no power or running water. This includes areas in Minnisota, Michigan, Illinois,Indiana, Ohio, Wisconsin and even Kentucky. Although I have heard nothing about park closures, some hotels have had to close and some roads and even a few highways are closed due to flooding.

But the next 5 days here in Indiana (HW) and Ohio (KI) look "free, cleared, and outta here!" as they say at CP...

Well, if your in the Northern Ohio area, I could see it. But down here in Columbus, it's pretty clear. Kings Island will probably be fine.

Does anyone know if Cedar Point got bad water damage? They were in the center of the Flood Warnings yesterday.

But i'm seriously tired of rain at the moment.

The parks in Northern Ohio are fine. The thing is that the rainfall varied wildly from one town to the next.

Kings Island will probably be fine.

Except that temperatures will be approaching three digits the next couple of days. (Might be ok if you're a waterpark person)

The kids even have early school dismissals the rest of the week.

Columbus is fine, yes, but our usual route up to CP through Bucyrus is completely cut off. (that is route 4).

Hope all is well where you are.

That was my purpose for posting this. The parks may be fine but, the accomodations and transportation may be an issue. And, even though the skies may stay clear for a few days, it's not over for everyone. Here in Northern Illinois, our problem has not just been the rain we get but the run-off from the rain Wisconsin has been getting and will continue to get for a few days.

Happy and Safe Coasting!

Gurnee ( The city that SFGAm is in) is having some flooding problems from the Des Plaines River but the park itself is fine.

If it keeps raining and raises the projected crest then Grand Avenue could be a problem coming from the east.

Quite a bit of sandbagging happening right now, particularly at one of the schools. *** Edited 8/23/2007 10:53:46 PM UTC by Brad G***

I have seen before, Route 21 on the east border of SFGAm flooded but, the park stayed open. This flooding seems much worse. My mom's boat on the Chain-O-Lakes, pulled loose from it's mooring and is now floating around the chain somewhere. As are a number of other boats.

St. Louis is full of construction. The main interstate running through the city is usually shut down throughout the weekends. Though SFStL is off 44, it is the main backup route for all work along with 270.

I was at CP on Wed and Thur and the park is COMPLETELY flood free... in fact, it was BLAZING hot on Thursday. I was at Geauga Lake today, which was also fine weather wise.

If you can't stand the heights, get out of the line.

As of yesterday I-75 was open for the length of Ohio, per Ohio Dept. of Transportation.

Roads around SFGAm are closing rapidly. As of yet, the park is still open but, I would still phone first. The Des Plaines river is expected to crest overnight tonight at record levels.

I'm kind of irritated by these freak storms, or whatever is going on. My park trip today is postponed because of chance of Rain. But it hasn't rained in columbus, but I'm sure once I leave the City, it's going to pour, arriving at the park to closed coasters.
