Did anyone else notice people chickening out from

Between my rides on Titan I took a couple on the Texas Giant as well. On one of these rides we were going to the top of the first hill when the people in the seat behind me turned around and took a good look at Titan from the Giant's viewpoint. These were teenagers, and they were ablsolutely terrified of the Titan. "I'll never get on that thing!" one of them said. I got the impression that these individuals had never even seen a hypercoaster let alone been on one.

And in the Titan's ride station I saw serveral people who had waited over an hour to ride suddenly decide the ride was just too much for them. Instead of riding they strolled through the train and out the other side. This in turn caused much delight as the people behind them got to ride sooner than they expected.

I didn't see any of this happen, but almost every one of my friends at school (about 50 kids) said they would never ride this if their life depended on it!

They should know by now ... Coaster dont kill People, People kill People :)

lol! my aunt went with me to cedar point about six years ago, and it was our first time ever seeing a hyper coaster. (magnum obviously). so, she waited in line for like two hours or so with my mom and then she chikened out. (i didn't even get in line because i was scared! but now i'll go on anything and have been on that and mf.) she eventually went on it also.

I have seen this hundreds of time while working on Raging BUll.

All the time. My husband likes coasters, but really has to work up to the very gradually (bad experiences as a kid). He was flipping out when we went on MF, but after the drop it was great. We only got to go the once, but maybe next time I'll get him to drop with his eyes open!

When I was a young lad, I went with my family to Six Flags Great America in Gurnee. What I failed to know was this was the season that the first inverted coaster in the world debuted. It was Batman The Ride. It looked so different. After waiting in the line for 4 hours!! Yes, 4 hours!! I decided I didn't want to ride it. I was 9 years old at the time. So my big sister and her friend rode while I waited. What happened was I jumped in my seat, and then I just got really scared due to the akward position and jumped off. Haha. I did go back and ride it the next year though.

I'll never understand people who are too scared to ride with their eyes open. People...closing your eyes makes the ride 10x SCARIER! No wonder they're terrified of coasters. If they'd watch where they're going, they'd probably love them!

My girlfriend was on Gemini with me complaining about how the drops were too intense...so I said "open your eyes next time." Sure enough...the next time around, she said to me, "hey, that wasn't bad at all!" Well, yeah! She rode Raptor with her eyes shut and nearly died of nausea. I'd probably get sick on Raptor with my eyes shut too!

It just reminds me of people whom I go to "horror" films with, they shut their eyes when the girl or guy gets killed in some awful way -- well -- DUH -- you MISS the movie -- and what you are seeing when you close your eyes is probably scarier than the reality. *** This post was edited by Dirk on 5/1/2001. ***

My friend tried to play herself by chickening out at the last minute on S:ROS. I had to bribe her with Dippin Dots

I walked around CP when I was a freshman in H.S., thinking I would never ride Magnum. My sophomore year, a friend of mine and myself went up. I told him he had to drag me on it because I would try to chicken out. He did drag me on, but half way up the hill, he looked at me, and said "Jeff, we shouldn't have done this!" Now, you can't drag me off of 'em!

I worked on the Blue Streak at CP for 2 years (92, 93, the last 2 yrs it had original trains, breaks, etc.) and I saw many people chicken out! I guess it's bound to happen on all rides. Maybe worse on the big ones. At CP, alot of parents think the Blue Streak is the ride to break their kids in on. That ride packs a punch (and was better with the old lap bars because you really flew out on that first bunny hop).

The sad thing was that ocassionaly you saw a parent dragging a kicking, screaming, crying kid to across the platform. This was really not cool! Sometimes the parent would be so insistent on their kid riding, we had to shut the ride down and get management and security over. uck!

I for one, wish that the wimps would stay away from coasters; number 1: the intrustry is forced to trim the coasters so not to hurt them too much, number 2: less lines for the people who really want to ride them, number 3: there aren't as much annoying screams.

Genius, you had me with #1 and #2 but lost me on #3...Screams are one of the things that make coasters fun for two reasons (being able to laugh at the wimps and the release of endorphins as you scream).
