The "TRICK TRACK"!

I recently saw a special on Discovery Channel about thrill rides and one of the coasters shown was the Shivering Timbers. My god, what an awesome looking woody. 3 hills that could all be used as a 1st hill. Anyway, they did some footage on a part of the track that sways left and right called a trick track. I have never experienced a ride with this even though its invention dates way back (I think they said the 1930s). Does this element give an awesome feeling or is it something they could have left out?

It is a nice addition, especially the first time you ride and aren't expecting it!

What are some coasters besides ST that have this feature? If you could name some near the DC area I would be extra appreciative

The only other one I can think of offhand is SFO's Villain. It's a neat little element, but you blow through it so quickly I'm not sure everyone even notices it :)

I'm pretty sure that the Raven and the Legend have trick tracks but I'm not sure. Not that that will help you seeing how they are in Southern Indiana

Sorry to tell you CP, but Holiday World is basically my home park, and Raven DOES NOT have a trick track. It is possible that the Legend does, because I haven't ridden it yet. But, I know for sure that Raven doesn't. Sorry :(

villain does have it, after the second hill. if they would have made it more banked, it would have been better but its pretty cool.

The Legend does not have trick-track. I could be wrong, but I believe ST was the first coaster built since the 'forties to incorporate this feature - it's pretty cool. The Villain's, as mentioned above, does not seem to really affect the ride. And I thought I heard something about Ghostrider having trick-track - if so, these are the only three operating coasters that I know of to have it.

The trick track was first used be Harry Traver the creator of the Crystal Beach Cyclone. I think the Phoenix at Knoebels could use some in the tunnel on the LONG straight away. It's a slow tunnel so I think it would work well in it. Also since most people have ridden the Phoenix by now it would be a great surprise. Maybe for 2001.

Yeah, one of the legends about the old CB Cyclone (you know, the coaster so terrifying that they had to have a full-time nurse on duty in the station) was that the trick-track was so intense that broken ribs were a common result. And, no disrespect intended coasterpunk, but I would not change a thing about the Phoenix. Nothing. Ever. After we rode it for the first time last month, I said to my wife "When I picture a coaster, I picture this". It was the first coaster I ever rode that I would call "perfect" and is now my favorite.

Neither the Legend or the Raven have Trick Track, but the King Cobra (the stand up coaster) at Kings Island does.

The Legend and Raven are twisty enough as it is - Trick Track is much more effective if most of the track is flat, as on Shivering Timbers.

I feel kind of stupid asking this, but what is Trick Track??

Boulder Dash, at Lake Compounce in Connecticut has one.

A A "Trick Track" Is a section of a coaster usually on a flat area but maybe a slight downgrade ur upgrade in wich the track sways from side to side sort of like banking a coaster a little bit to the left and then to the right just a little bit. But not actually turning at all.
It basically dips once side of the track and raises the other side at the same time.

Oh, that's right, I forgot about the little bank on King Cobra. That was actually the first "trick track" I ever rode, and I didn't realize WHAT it was for. We were like "what was the point of THAT?" :)
