amusement park prices going up?

Anyone that lives in or near Detroit, wxyz channel 7 is having a spot on "AMUSEMENT PARK PRICES" tonight at 11 pm. Also do you guys think that the prices that parks charge for admission is ok, or too high?

It's all right. As for the cause: Gas.

But that's just inflation for ya!

Luckily, I got my season pass for Six Flags, so I'm set... too bad Cedar Point's season pass is over double the price of a Six Flags pass...

... and there aren't nearly as many Cedar Fair parks as there are Six Flags parks to travel to!!!!

I don't think parks are charging to much for admission. I mean down here at SFOG the season pass is only $45 and you get admission to all the SF parks. Also, my IOA season pass price went down $50 from last year.

When I first started working for the Point, the POP was $5.95. The Sunset Special (after 5:00 PM) was $2.95, if I recall properly. You could still buy individual ride tickets, if you wanted to. How things have changed.

I thought it was out of control at Sea World in 1990 when it was $32.

And that's exactly why I think Six Flags doesn't know what they're getting into by buying Sea World Ohio. Busch sold the park because the problem was obvious: You have to feed the animals year-round, regardless of whether or not the park is open.

Oooo, good point, Jeff. I think park prices are okay, sure they go up every year, but when the coasters get higher too I don't mind as much!

Incidentally, why would higher gas prices cause park prices to rise? I know they use maintenance vehicles that use gas (duh) but it isn't like the rides do, other than go-karts (extra-admission anyway, usually) and some models of car rides.

Not sure how parks handle this, but with today's litigation happy society, what type of insurance policies do parks have? I would imagine some of the price increases you see at the gate are because of this.

Keep in mind that every truck bringing food, clothing, souvenirs, toilet paper, employee uniforms, camera film, little tiny soaps for hotel rooms and everything else an amusement park uses everyday, is using gasoline. The shipping companies face increased costs, which are passed on to the park, which in turn passes them on to us.

Not only gas, but also electricity (especially for parks in California).

However, it seems to me parks give you a year to get used to the higher price: The year the price goes up, there is usually a discount price available to get you down to the old gate. Then, when you actually have to pay the higher price the following year, it's not such sticker shock!
