New coaster for Coney

There are plenty of good rides at Coney. The Saturn 6 is tons of fun and it's too bad the Zipper has to go. There's some crap but also a lot of great stuff.

Just remember folks............in North America,Coney Island, by idea alone, was that park that give birth to all the other parks that follwed!!!!

I love the quotes from the folks in the street.

It should have 3 hour lines and dispatch once every 10 minutes?

Yeah, I found those quotes pretty funny, especially the one about a coaster that goes slow. Laugh at enthusiasts all you want but at least enthusiasts give some pretty decent quotes, unlike regular clueless joes off the street.

And the Disneying of Coney Island continues...

Hmmm, I see that totally opposite. To me it shows how far from what the average person thinks enthusiasts really are. We enthusiasts are the joke here.

I love 'regular joe' quotes like this. It's much more true to the nature of things than some enthusiast spouting off some buzzwords like a good little shill.

If you're looking for a quote about a new coaster, why not go to enthusiast? After all, the article is hyping the new coaster so the quotes used should support the author's intent. That's like me writing an article about baseball and interviewing a bunch of people that like hockey.

No it's like doing an article about baseball and interviewing random people outside the ballpark.

I used "Here" meaning "in this situation" :)

But people outside a ballpark are there because they enjoy baseball. Someone walking the streets of Coney Island doesn't necessarily appreciate coasters. But anyway, the point I was trying to make was that the author's choice of quotes didn't really support the main intent of his article. If you're trying to promote plans for a new coaster, you don't quote someone saying they're not going on it unless it's slow. That, to me, pretty much discredits the news.

Really, if *I* were writing the article, I'd want both perspectives...

One or two quotes from enthusiasts (preferably local) might give some insight as to the amusement history of the area, maybe even the industry ramifications (say, how existing local parks might be affected). I'd also REALLY want to have some input from the local people who are NOT enthusiasts but might be affected by this *expansion*...

I don't think the point of the article was to promote the new coaster - it was to pass along the information. It's news, not a commercial. That's what parks use Paul Ruben for. ;)

And the fact that every person at CI is not a coaster enthusiast is exactly the point. This is what the average CI visitor thinks, not what the average coaster fan thinks.

If you want a fluff piece about a roller coaster, you call up some enthusiast who runs a prominent website for a 'money quote.'

If you want to pass along a news item about local development and include some thoughts from locals, you ask the people who frequent the place in question.

Coney is a nice little park, although I think they should let us bumper boat fans explore the WHOLE lake instead of a portion of it.

If they have so much money to expand, WHY are they not taking the Screechin' Eagle off of Mr. Couch's hands? If the price is right I am sure he would say yes. Some things in this life will NEVER make sense to me.

I found the park to be charming, in a non "honkey tonk" sort of way. :)
