So fellow buzzers, ask yourselves: What coasters would you ride if they were a different type or designer?
For some reason though the GP seems to flock to the SLC's,I don't know how they can tolerate the rough ride & come back for more because for me one ride on an SLC per trip is more than enough.
There is a new custom SLC in Europe with a brand new layout (vertical loop, cobra roll, etc). I've heard it's not too bad either.
However, if that same layout was made by Intamin, I'm sure that it'd be uber-sweet. Imagine... it's got the same 2-seat style inverted trains, it's capable of making super twisty layouts... it would be one of the most intense FUN smooth coasters out there.
Both of those rides were before I moved here, when I would visit. In the 20 months I've been a resident, I haven't bothered with that pile of crap, and I love coasters.
On a side note, upon my visit to GL in '03, I was damned near startled at how much I enjoyed their SLC. It seemed noticeably smoother to me, as I noted in my TR, but that could have been because I felt it had better (more) padding around the head than other SLCs (Kong at SFMW can be brutal, for instance).
They Live. We Sleep.
i visited las vegas this year for the monster truck world finals. being that two of my favorite things in the world are monster trucks and coasters, i was excited to get some more seat time in both.
i had my eye on manhattan express for a day and a half before i got a ride, and it could quite possibly be one of the biggest let downs i've hever had. so boring. such great real-estate for a thrill ride, gone to waste! i don't know much about togo aside from manhattan express and the viper they built which was recently disassembled, but i'm not inclined to learn much more.
anyway, more on-topic, i think the only great part of the ride was the view (aside from the messy rooftop the coaster is built on), so i would have loved just a smooth, dangly inverted coaster. if it can't be exciting, maybe it could have been beautiful? i dunno.

Read back about five 'Buzz-years ago and you'll find a couple of my *rants* on the subject of SLCs and the difference made by the heavily-padded OTSRs. (I think at the time I was praising Wild Adventures for their SLC...my how times have changed, and NOT for the better in this case)....
edit: Morey's is clearly the best of the stateside SLCs that I've been on, and I think I'm only lacking Kong...SUPREME foot-choppin' action!

Most of the time, in my experience, Kong delivers a pretty average ride compared to some of the other Six Flags SLC's and Thunderhawk. This season it was especially pleasant. It was actually a fun ride. Granted, two seasons ago I had the most rough ride on it.
Some SLC's are just brutal, but GP still flocks to them.
