Dollywood's Mystery Mine Ride

I know we here at CBuzz generally frown upon screamscape. However, they did have a link to the Gerstlauer web site that says they are building the Mystery Mine ride for Dollywood.

I think that this news is fairly new.

I wonder if it is going to be a Gerstlauer euro-fighter. That would get a lot of people to go ride the first euro-fighter in the US.

I get the feeling it will be the euro-fighter. This will definitely warrant a trip to Dollywood next year. I love their recent additions, Mystery Mine Ride, Thunderhead, and Timber Tower.

The ride has been unveiled, and the official stats are now online here.

As expected, it is the first Gerstlauer Eurofighter for the U.S. It will have an 85 foot, 95º drop, two inversions, and a track length of 1811 feet. What's interesting is that there will be two vertical lifts instead of one. Looks like it will be heavily themed based on the concept art, and there are companies listed that are providing special effects and audio/video systems.

Looks like a pretty cool ride, and I'm excited that we'll finally get one of these in the States. Now if we could just get someone to build one of those wicked looking Gerstlauer Bobsled coasters! :)

I agree flyingscooter. The pics look cool and I am interested in why it needs two lifts as well.

With 1,811 feet of track and a ride time of 2:30 it sounds like the cars will probably stop along the course somewhere. Maybe for an animated scene like IJ or Everest. It would explain the need for a second lift. Should we be calling these "scenic railways"?

Is this being built in the large abandoned building at the side of the hill with the waterfall? When I saw that gutted attraction a few months ago it looked like a fantastic front for some major attraction. What was it before?

I remember a ride by a waterfall at Dollywood, where you rode a boat thru a mine where there was various scenes with animatronics. I forgot the name of this ride, is this still there? If not is the location that rc-madness talking about the spot where this ride used to be?

That ride was called "The Flooded Mine". The ride was themed around an old abandoned prison mine, that was flooded. I remeber it as well. It was mad kewl, but unfortunately it was replaced with "Dare Devil Falls". Dare Devil Falls is another amazing heavily themed water ride.

Silver Dollar City still has The Flooded Mine.

That building is the Lucky 7 Mine.

Back in the Silver Dollar City Tennessee days the upper floors contained a walk-thru funhouse called "The Inventor's Mansion". (Silver Dollar City in Branson still has a similar attraction today) The mine-themed ground level had a gift shop.

When the park became Dollywood in 1986, the funhouse floors were gutted and turned into the "Rags to Riches" Dolly Parton Museum. It operated until 2002, when the new "Chasing Rainbows" Dolly museum opened down near the park's entrance. The mine gift shop remained open until 2004.

Like Airromeo4Ever pointed out above, The Flooded Mine dark ride (pic) was located where Daredevil Falls is today. It was closed and demolished in 1997.

Mystery Mine will be up the valley beyond Timber Tower. :)
