Impression of SFMM...

Not that we really need another SFMM thread here, but...

I just made my first visit to SFMM yesterday.

My impression? It's a nice park, but it's very badly beaten up. That park could be a real jewel, but the most important thing it needs is to be run by an operator that actually cares about the place. And clearly we learned last week that Six Flags doesn't care. If SFMM were run with the same care and pride that goes into, say, SFStL, it would be one of the nicest parks in America. Unfortunately, right now the park is a bit of a basket-case.

I'll post a trip report to the usual places once I finally get it written.

A reply so good, it spans TWO major coaster discussion forums ;) And it's not even Thursday!

The place is decent at best. It has some awsome rides, but try waiting in line for X for over 3 hours behind some gang-bangers. That sucked.

I think this thread really accurately sums up SFMM, though it took the great minds of Dave and Moosh combined to form the ultra coaster megazoid to do it.

And it was so simple. "Beaten up" and "I've fallen and I can't get up." Brillian.

Dave, you summarized that place VERY well, and also without being too long and wordy.

A real jewel that place could be, IF someone took the time, money, and effort into turning it around and actually caring about it--unlike the last management team, who seemed to think that throwing big coasters in there was sufficient or something.

My impression of SFMM hasn't changed much at all over the years, although it WAS cleaner this past march.

Potential to be AMAZING....performs like a dog. Del Holland has borne the brunt of my anger about that fact....and I still think I'm right. ;)

^^^ This is probably NOT the type of park that Will would want to manage. I'm not even sure who would want to buy this place and inherit its issues.

And why has Six Flags kept Del Holland around all these years? Why didn't they move one of the GMs from a well-run, well-rounded park, to SFMM? By the way, is he still there, or did Shapiro can him?

How anyone could let a park that big work off a maintenance budget so small, and get away with it for as long as he did--where's the common sense?
