Kings Dominion's FoF

What is going on with Flight of Fear? IMO it's one of the best coasters in the park but it is currently SBNO. Does anyone no something on this topic?

The competing rumors are:

1. The park does not have a enough power on its grid to run 3 LIM lauched coasters so FoF is closed and will be taken out next year.

2. PCar is about to get FOF

Either way it appears that FOF at PKD is likely no more.

^ If they knew they weren't going to be able to handle the power, then why did they get IJ in the first place? Why didn't they give this to PCar instead, and then give PKD another coaster--something that isn't launched. It's been YEARS since we received a large, non-launching coaster. Technically, the last one was Hurler in 1994. The only other non-launched coasters we've gotten since then have been Ricochet and Taxi Jam.

Please, PKD, install a "normal" coaster :)

Theory no. 1 is not implausible. Anyone who went in 98' will remember that half of the seats on Volcano were missing on each train due to lack of power.

It seems like for every LIM coaster that's down, the 'It's down because the park doesn't have enough power' theory surfaces. It's true that alot of people in this country need a calculator to add 25 to 26, but I can't accept that parks can't plan that well.

^I wouldn't say that is the case. JJ is down because it needs a part and Chiller is down because it decided to take it's own life.

While theory #1 may not be implausable, wouldn't you think PKD would have learned their lesson after the first time if this were the case?

Well, if we see FOF's building come down, then we may be able to safely assume that it is leaving. Until then, maybe we can hope that CF will have different plans than Paramount and keep the ride where it is. *** Edited 6/27/2006 8:46:24 PM UTC by rablat5***

What I heard was that they planned to remove the ride to cover the cost of IJTC.

Now I just don't buy it because they're not in the situation that SF is in & if they were how would a 10 year old coaster's existence effect the park's ability to purchase a new ride?

If you don't believe it (which you shouldn't, that's the stupidest theory I've ever heard) then why do you keep bringing it up every time someone asks about the ride?

It was closed for a retheme ... Paramount gave that information away last year if you were really paying any attention. Now, if that retheme goes through or not considering the sale, that remains to be seen.

PKI got IJ first, PKD gets the FoF retheme first.

But why not do the retheme in the off-season? How extensive could it be, and how much could/should they really change? Any ideas?

Why in the world would anyone want an MTV-themed coaster, and how would you even do that?

Assuming that FoF is the same at PKI vs PKD, then isn't all of the theming in the line before the ride and in the station? The actual ride is mostly in the dark, minus the few colored lights.

IF they are re-theming the ride and or station, I can see why it would be closed. IF they are re-theming the line, why wouldn't they be able to re-route the line using either the exit or an emergency door?

^You see theres this theme park in Orlando, quite popular, they designed a coaster which had a rock and roll themed and had a soundtrack by some guys named Aerosmith, ever hear of them? Anyways the ride is quite popular and for some reason CBS thought, hey heres an idea why dont we do the exact same thing, but insert our brand (MTV) into it!

So instead of this cool sci-fi theming, aliens, etc., they might do a rip-off of Disney and do a music-themed indoor coaster?

Also, how would that even fit into the Congo area? That would be a worse fit than even IJTC. Maybe we should make the entire park "The Grove"!

^I like the sci fi theme to, but I was just responding the poster's comment about how an MTV based attraction would work (he claimed it made no sense) and cleary Disney has made it work so well they are now two of them.

I guess some creative person could make it work, but it wouldn't fit into the area of the park it's in, and it would be kind of a rip-off. Why not go for something more unique? I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
