Toverland, an indoor park in the Netherlands that built the first Vekoma Booster Bike a few years ago confirmed today that they were building a GCI wooden coaster that should open in june 2007. They confirmed the height of 105 feet and lenght is 2300 feet.

Great news for a little park!

^ Yes, but this NEXT one proves that they were *successful* in their first attempt outside the States.

I still think Clair and Jeff and the gang should break into wood-coaster train manufacturing, but they resist my prodding... ;)

If this is an indoor park, is the coaster going to be built indoors as well? Absimilliard do you have a news link?

If GCII started making MFlyers for non-coaster customers I'd have a new living room set.

Great news. I was skeptical that GCII's alignment with Mack in Europe was going to yield anything but it seems I was wrong.

Greedy Rob wants more GCII coasters over here but I'm happy to see that Europe is getting to find out what all the fuss is about. A wood coaster is good news, regardless of where it's being built.

Hopefully this won't be the ONLY GCII project for 2007 ;)

@thrillerman

Toverland started as an indoor playground for small children with something to do for the parents as well. It opened in spring 2001 and is now celebrating its 5th birthday.

In 2004 they expanded from "indoor" to the outdoors with the booster bike, a large logflume that has its big splash going outdoors and an adventure trail.

The park is located next to the dutch-german border and what started as a small, year round playground is now one of the biggest tourist attractions in the Netherlands.

Additionally to the wooden coaster there will be a new attraction which will be bring the "sensation of flying" but there is no word what this would be. At the moment it is not quite clear which of those two attractions will come first. One should be ready by june 2007.

You can check out the attractions here:

Thanks Kitsch. Sounds like a cool place. Props to the GCII.

You know I don't think I've ever heard of a completely indoor wooden coaster, but maybe I'm just having a brain funk. Has this ever been done? Notice I said *completely indoor*...so Hades doesn't count.

Thats becase those things things rock! They come very close to fufiling a childhood fantasy of mine about being able to get a swing to do a 360. After recently riding Kennywood's my only complaint is that the ride is too short, and since this is KW we are talking about (the king of long flat ride lengths) I assume S&S is to blame.

Well, there's one more for those darn lucky Europe peeps. If it's anything like Thunderbird, they're in for a treat!

What--so it's June? How much longer do we wait before we hear about something from GG? It'll be interesting to see how many more wooden coasters we get next year.

Props to GCI, can't wait to hear how many trains the sucker will have....

^ Just thinking...the Booster Bike *seems* like an awfully low-capacity ride....if I were forced to GUESS, I might say that Toverland doesn't REQUIRE higher capacity, and therefore one train SEEMS to be an option, if not the likely choice.

Of course, if the park is growing as fast as our European friends are telling us, then it might make MORE sense to go ahead and build the coaster for two-train operations (i.e., with transfer track), and either deliver two trains at opening or have one ready immediately with another scheduled for a year or two down the road...

This post brought to you by the committee to keep coasterpunk building MFlyers... :)

The park now announced that the "flying attraction" will be a "Wiefly" by Wiegand. Toverland already has a powered slide by this manufacturer and this is their suspended version. It will be 700 meters in lengths (approx. 2400 ft.). The passenger will be able to control his own speed!

see here:

http://www.wiegandslide.com/152.html

Not exactly high capacity, and it will certainly be a big success with the target audience.

Now for the debate: Coaster or not?

Hobbes: "What's the point of attaching a number to everything you do?"
Calvin: "If your numbers go up, it means you're having more fun."
