It's a washout this year.
All the new rides are coming on late, they don't break any records, and its basically a dud year.
Yes, I know about Hypersonic, I've been reading every day. But their 1 train running, and launch problems have made me happy I didn't fly up there. And you know what? I was actually thinking of flying up there in April, but something told me no. And now I know why, it's a debugging coaster. Didn't run two weeks ago, Frig. What if I had flown up there that weekend?
What else?
Nitro?
Well, I rode Raging Bull last year, basically the same thing. Props to B&M for delivering a fully working coaster on time. B&M Rules.
X, Deja Vu?
Well, I rode Stealth and Face Off last year.
Bigger and better versions, but they won't be ready until the middle of the summer. Again, I don't want to fight the long lines.
We're all waiting for XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
And it won't appear until August, the middle of the summer (my estimate). Darn it, that's 1 full month of summer crowds, then the weekends of October.
Can you get the feeling from someone who must FLY from South Florida everywhere?
It's not an exciting season. We're hanging.
All the major rides being build won't be ready until later this year, and then it's too late. The season is over. The announce dates, and building dates have fallen behind the seasons. The coasters need to be ready before the opening dates.

Like, Cedar Point should be telliing us about their new rides for 2002 and start building them right now, so people can get into it.
It's taking longer than expected for the ride manufacturers to finish and test the rides. That's fine, I don't mind that. But give us an honest estimate of when the ride will be ready.
Start building the rides in the summer time so they're ready for the next season.

well it's a good thing X and Deja Vu are in california b/c we never really have an off season and with X opening so late in the year SFMM might add more operatinging days this year.
I know i personally am waiting for X more then any other coaster I have ever wanted to ride. I can't think of anyone that loves coasters that could look at X and not want to ride that monster.

Robvia, I don't mean to be rude, but what are you talking about? "It's a washout this year." After a quick examination of the hardware to come, I have to strongly disagree:
Nitro - Possibly the best coaster layout ever. Add to that fact that B&M brought us the hardware, and I'm sure this one will hit #1 in many people's rankings.
Talon - How can a B&M inverted be a letdown? That turn on the ground looks awesome, and the ride on a whole should be sensational. I just wish CF:LP had sent it to WOF instead of Dorney :-)
X-Flight/Batwing - We're talking about only the second and third coasters of the flying genre. Now there will be Dutchmen on both coasts and in Ohio. And it looks like Vekoma is trying to make improvements in the ride, judging from the station and the corkscrew to flatspin conversion.
Hypersonic - I'll admit that it seems to have been plagued with technical problems, but it's the first of it's kind, and I'm sure they'll get the kinks worked out. I cannot possibly see how 0-80 in less than two seconds can be a letdown.
Wildfire - A B&M sitdown, which is a rarity. The ride is fast, furious, and features a sensational first drop. Add to that SDC's incredible theming, and this coaster is definitely a crowd pleaser.
Colossos - A near hyper-woodie which has a great looking layout. The early reports have said that this coaster is very smooth, which is surprising for this tall of a wooden coaster.
X - C'mon. This coaster looks nuts. It'll be like nothing else on the planet.
Cheetah - I'm not sure how a mid-sized CCI could be bad.
V2 - While they are not an original design, S:UE surprised everyone. I see no evidence that the new ones will disappoint.
Deja Vu - I know they're just an invertigo, but they're a near hyper-invertigo.
Titan - I loved Goliath, and this ride should deliver even higher thrills with the extra helix before the brake run.
I'm sure there are big additions that I've forgotten, but I think that by no means is 2001 a letdown year. Just because there are no record breakers does not mean that the rides will be bad. And the fact that they're late--well--good things come to those who wait.

I'd say that Talon, to me, is the most anticipated, because if this puppy can perform well, and bring great returns for Dorney I feel confident that the other parks in the chain (such as Valleyfair!, World of Fun, and Knott's) will be getting a similar ride in the next few years.

robvia, WHAT YOU TALKIN' 'BOUT? Raging Bull is NOT EQUAL to Nitro. They are two different style of coasters. One is a twister, the other is an out & back... Those give way different rides.
And washout? How is it a washout? Hypersonic, X, Deja Vu(s), Vertical Velocity(ies), Cornball Express, Phantom's Revenge...
The way your talking, you must be from the southern US, where you have some year-round parks. Many of these will open a week or 2 after opening day, which is normal. Many of the parks are in the northern half, where seasons are shorter, and start later. Thats why they started construction later than other places (and the weather.)
But the biggest one will be X. I think it is going to get too much hype, and not deliver enough. Around here though, only I have heard of X, and the big ones are Deja Vu & Vertical Velocity.

I think the reason this year feels like a "letdown" to some people is because in general 2000 had a lot of hype. There was the Y2K avoidable programming decision (I refuse to call it a bug), and the "Millennium even though it wasn't the Millennium hype", therefore 2000 had to pull out all the stops. Several coasters shocked the community. Millennium Force, Stealth, Son of the Beast, did things no one else had done, and many shattered records. The whole Six Flags Ohio adds four coasters thing was amazing also. It all seems downhill (pun intended) from there.
I don't know about everyone else, but PKIs additions in 2001 might bring in a bigger crowd and become more hypeable than SOB.

The most anticipated rides of 2001:
X- This coaster will take the floorless and Flying Dutchman to the next level. The 4th dimension is basically the floorless and Flying Dutchman together in one.
Acrophobia- This next generation freefall ride will change the way freefall rides are made because of the unbelievable element of standing up while your feet are dangling and being tilted 15 degrees so that you are looking down. Wow!

The most anticipated coaster this year? X and X-Flight/Batwing definately. I think Nitro was the most anticipated before it opened, and it's still generating some great buzz. As for personal 2001 rides, I get to ride X, Deja Vu, V2, and X-Flight this year. The one I'm looking forward to the most? It's a tie between Deja Vu and X-Flight, with X and V2 coming in tied at last. I have to see X run before I can get overly-excited over this coaster. X-Flight should take Stealth's experience and make it a WHOLE lot better, and the same for Deja Vu. I love the regular Invertigo, so Deja Vu should double the fun of that style of coaster. And as far as this year being a wash? Bogus. Not so. There are some great rides opening this year. Who cares if there are not many "record breakers". Records don't make a good ride. You can have the tallest coaster in the world be a crappy ride if it's not a good design. I'll take a good layout with great g's over a tall first drop any day. Just my two cents on the matter.
