Mr. Freeze Question. . .

Hey! For my physic final, a friend of mine are taking a trip to SFSTL, and filming it, relating it to phsyics, and presenting it to the class. I have a few things we will be doing, but I need some help with one. I need to calculate the impluse of the set of LIMs at the top of Freeze's spike, so I can adjust the acceration of the train during its freefall. Is there anywhere where I can find how much power the LIMs put out each? Thanks for the help ;-D

Well if it is a true freefall, then Gravity is the only thing causing the train to fall. To my knowledge, the LIMs only push the train further up the spike. Therefore, the acceleration is 9.8m/s², as the LIMs turn off as the train falls backwards due to gravity.

AFAIK, the only Premier to launch back down the spike is Chiller blue, so you should be set with Mr. Freeze.

As for the impulse pushing it to the top, well... Good luck :)

Use the video and onsite calculations of distance and height (likely you could do with only track width, crosstie spacing and heights above ground would be helpful in limiting calculations) to find out all the data you need. It's not entirely precise, but you'll be able to get 60 data points a second.

Wow, never knew that. No wonder the bleepin' thing never works.

The only launchs that happens on Chiller (either side) is out of the station and up the LIMS before the reverse freefall. As for the train weight, why don't you try to contact Premier Rides? They're located in Millersville, MD.

The word spike implies a straight up and down section (like Mr. Freeze), which Chiller doesn't have except for the Top Hat. I had to check out a picture taken from the ferris wheel from the "American Roller Coaster" book to see that yes, Batman is considerably taller (20ft.? more?). Here's an interesting blurb on the photo; After describing what each track does, he says "Then both trains spin through twin heartline spins, climb a dead-end ramp, and are launched through the whole layout backward. So it sounds like he's implying that both trains need a backward launch to get back the station.
