B&M stand-ups convert to floorless
I was wondering. Some people think that B&M stand-ups should be converted to floorless trains. Is this really possible, or would the park probably not because they would spend too much money on refiting the track or something?
I was just thinking it would be nice if it was possible, and instead of SFGAm building a floorless someday, that they would make Iron Wolf into one. That would be so cool! Or better yet, have one floorless train, one stand-up train! (two lines for the coaster, of course.)
I know they can't run both, though. The floor of the station track is too different to allow both types.

Although I agree it would be nice. The Stations would need to be rebuilt or reworked big time.
With stand-up cars, you board the car to get your seat. With Floorless cars, the floor cames up from under the Station and you board the train. When the train is loaded, the floor is retracted and the train is released.
A better possibilty is switching train types, such as Stand-ups to regular trains or Open-air trains such as those on Nitro and AC.
Personally, IMHO a ride like Riddlers Revenge would not be as good in a sitdown regluar train (essentially making it a Kumba clone). Mind you, it could be fun in an Open-air car!

I'm not actually that sure stand-ups need to be converted anyway! I've rode CP's Mantis, SFOG's Georgia Scorcher and DMP's Shockwave - all earn a 4 star rating in my book. Yes, they do have some flaws, being noticably bumpier than other coasters out there, but can you honestly say they're that uncomfortable?
And, how many major looping rides have you went backwards on?! I rode DMP's Shockwave about 3-4 weeks ago, facing backwards... OK, so having a headrest in your face isn't exactly wonderful, but we all turned our heads sideways, and looked out of the gap. It was one of the most enjoyable & memorable coaster rides I've ever had, on a par with my first go on a big multilooper, and my first go on Kennywood's Thunderbolt! *** This post was edited by Skydave on 4/16/2001. ***

I really don't think it would be possible. There is such precision engineering that goes into these coasters, and deciding exactly how much stress can be put on the body, ESPECIALLY on stand up coasters. Standups are designed very differently from sit downs, reducing the lateral g-forces one the body. Switching the standup cars for floorless cars would change your center of gravity, and the coaster would not feel, or perform as it should.

I agree with FloridaCoasterRider... B&M coasters are designed so that the rider's body is rotated around his or her heart, which is what I believe makes them "smoother" than other looping coasters. By changing from stand-up vehicles to floorless ones, the riders' bodies would no longer be rotating about their heart, thus changing the way the coaster feels.
Besides, wouldn't it be better if a park like Cedar Point kept Mantis and added a floorless, rather than changing Mantis into a floorless?

I don't think it would be possible, or even a good move if it were. I love falling into the restraint on the big drops, and the quick transitions on Mantis are fantastic in the stand-up position. I think the sit-down trains would not take advantage of those transitions as much. I also agree woth Rob and FloridaCoasterRider that the change in center of gravity would make the ride seem rougher.

I don't see what the big deal is on redoing the station. It cannot cost as much as just building a new roller coaster. The track would still be the same size so there wouldn't be any refitting. I also really don't think there would be a change in body dynamics if you are sitting down. I know there are no special feature about Mantis that is not already applied to a sit down already
