SFNO re-opening according to local NOLA station.

Sorry I don't have an official source, but my wife said last night on the news they made a very brief mention of SF and that it will reopen sometime here in the future. There was lots of flooding damage, but many of the rides and structures are OK. What she didn't recall was an actual date. My guess is 07. But, that's the first we've heard SFNO mentioned locally in any news outlet in a long time. So that's progress!

I'll have to ask her.....I forget. I think it was just a generic piece on the state of tourism now that Mardi Gras has begun, not SF specific, but did make very brief mention that it would reopen.

I just haven't heard a PEEP anywhere about SF since the storm hit. Saw pics on the news a week or 2 after the storm, but that was it! So, if this little "blurb" is accurate, at least it's something!

If you look at the Six Flags web site you will notice that they have SFNO closed thru June. Then it’s all set at as TBD. I suspect that Six Flags plans on re-opening it in July or August. They probably will be running with limited operations.

If you saw the park you would not be so sure ;)

I really don't think that was by any planning just a "let's remove a whole lot of dates from the schedule since we know we're not opening anytime soon!" sort of mentality

There has been no official word on the parks future yet.

As long as I am working at the park, that is probably a good sign that the decision to axe the park has not been made.

I am still an active employee at the park.

That's good. Like I said, the little blurb my wife heard on the news is that it will reopen, sometime in the future. (And who knows where the news folk heard this for their little tourism piece) To this point there had been no work as to it's fate in General. Here's hoping for a 2007 re-opening!

Six Flags New Orleans has become a neighborhood of work trailers and support equipment over the last few weeks, FEMA seems to be able to claim space wherever needed.

Some cleanup and assessment is continuing around the park as insurance discussions go on.

Various individuals associated with the effort have informed us that Six Flags Inc. still intends to rebuild the park, but there are still a few unanswered questions. Particulary related to the insurance collections, allocations and ability to obtain replacement ride and attractions for the park.

More to come as this story develops.

My guess would be that repairs if they were to begin, will be after the insurance company who holds the insurance for the property and the rides (which very well could be two different companies ) comes back with a dollar amount. I am guessing the property and its contents were carrying flood insurance that covered 75% of the value. But for a piece of property this size with this many rides it could very well take a year for a decission to be prossesed after full evauluation of the state of the park and then a dollar amount would be given.

Assessment onsite basically is done.

The area with the trailers is a fema staging area and has nothing to do with SF. Except that it is located in the parking lot.

I am also aware that SFI intends to rebuild the park but with the many unanswered questions listed above and those not listed that could change at any moment.

There you have example of info that you think is good, but is incorrect.

There is no work going on in parking lot for SFNO. It is a fema staging area.

But knowing Six Flags, they're probibly charging FEMA twice as much to park there than the average truck and trailer.

Knowing FEMA they'll come up with the money in a few months.
