After Walibi Belgium recently demolished their Vekoma Corkscrew in an orgy of destruction they will premier the new ride system by alpine-lift manufacturer Doppelmayr.

The Mountain Glider, a mixture of a chair-lift and a suspended coaster with a vertical lift looks certainly interesting.

Pictures of the particular Walibi Model which should give you an idea what the ride will do can be seen here:

I'd definitely try it out...although I think I'd be hanging on pretty tight... ;)

LOL @ "orgy of destruction"...why aren't more native speakers as clever with their use of English? :)

^Fear of heights?

Doppelmayr is one of the (they call themselves THE) leader in ropeway engeneering. So I guess the thing would be safe and fun.

Here's a site that has four (very) short videos of the ride system... http://tinyurl.com/c5bcv

I love how few supports it needs. This will make a great addition to 'land locked parks'... that don't need high capacity.
Looks like tons o fun.

But wouldn't Walibi Belgium need a bit more capacity than these? How will capacity be any better than those Setpoint failures? Looks like an amazingly fun ride though.

Wouldn't it be cool to have a ride like that at Kennywood from the free parking area to the park entrance? Looks like a lot of fun!

Would this count as a coaster? How many credits, Andy? ;)

Why wouldn't it, Matt? It rolls and coasts...it meets my definition of a roller coaster. ;)

Probably a good thing to build it over water. ;)

Trip out though!

^I like your thinking, Machos. :-)

After viewing the videos though, I think the Skyglider would be more my thing. Maybe they can replace Kennywood's chair lift with THAT one. :-P

So does that mean you're gonna count the ferris wheel at DCA, George?

That does look like a lot of fun. The new sky ride. I could see a lot of parks getting these. Next thing you know Cedar Point will be taking back the record for height. ;)

RCDB has some specs and a some very interesting 3d sketches of the cars and the actual layout.

It is only a few feet short of a hyper-coaster and will have a very nice lapbar system (yay, no OTSR!). Check that nifty wheel assembly!

Sadly, the previous layout which runs over the lake can not be built because the lake is protected by some no-fun environmental law. Yeah, right! In an amusement park!

The old layout would have had only two supports in the lake, and the riders would have come very close to the water surface. It seems that the new layout will now surround the lake, but it looks a bit less spectacular.
