Ravine Flyer II Construction (More GOOD News!)

Well the past few months in Erie have once again been busy with Ravine Flyer II news. Thankfully, this time, on a positive note. First, the Candela's were ruled against again. Second, the Candela's failed to appeal the ruling. On Friday, we got a construction date. The construction is scheduled to start in April with footers being poured to start the bridge the coaster will pass over. According to the Feb. 3 Erie Times News, the coaster could open as early as 2007, and no later than 2008.

It's nice to see a more set construction date. I hope throughout this summer I can check up on it.

Any new wood is good, but this one should be something special. After 10+ years of teasing, hopefully it will live up to the hype.

I didn't know they were to start construction this year. Very cool. The layout looks like an instant classic. We will see though. It can only get me home more often. :)

Life is good! Finaly we are getting this coaster and the Steelers are in the Super Bowl.

Waldameer has become my favorite local park to visit, with Kennywood a close #2.

Anything like this is great news to hear about.

The owner of Waldameer isn't getting any younger (Paul Nelson is in his mid-70s), and this long-haul is a great victory for the area and the Nelson family.

The loading station area is where I regularly saw some lady taking her dog for a 'walk'. Must have been one of the Nelson relatives.

Brings an entire new meaning to 'Loading Station'...or should I say 'unloading station' ?!? LMAO

I've seen that layout before.
It'd be nice to get a more 3-D layout to really get an idea what his proposal is all about. Where's the highest section, how does it look crossing the street, how many hills does it have, what's the total length, is it more of a twister or a out-n-back woodie... and other stuff like that.

I hope it goes in soon, too! I'm not getting any younger & I've been looking forward to this coaster since I'd say the year 2000... and each year it's been pushed out another couple of years.

According to the scale shown on the scan, the total length of the ride is probably somewhere around 15 miles ;)

^^^ Rob, it would have to be consdering that according to that same scan, Peninsula Drive is about 1000' wide.
