Video of a ride accident in Japan?

It's not S&S. There are a number of other drop tower manufacturers.

It's tragic, also.

I think Zamperla, maybe Chance, and a few others make drop towers.

I am not sure but it may be a Larson tower. It kinda looks a little like Atmosfear at Morey's Piers.

Well, I don't know where it was... but the voice over was Japanese.

Tomoko says the two people fell 27 meters, and they are in serious condition.

The reason the people got hurt, and the collision happened is because the ride suddenly regained power, and started coming down.

OH...so it was.being evacuated and suddenly regained power, I guess. So no fatalities it seems? That would be amazing.

If they survive a 27 meter fall then God is definitely with them.

That didn't look like that big a fall...maybe the tower itself is 27 meters.

I can't really tell if the people who fell were park employees or not. I'm pretty sure they got thrown out of the manlift and not the ride. I just wonder if they were getting people down or just talking to the people to calm them down and got too close.

I just wonder how long the ride was stopped in the air. Most places wouldn't even consider getting people down until they were in some kind of danger, lightning, extreme heat, medical condition, etc. It would be interesting to see a little more at the beginning of the clip to see what was actually going on instead of just the incident.

It looks sort of like a Huss tower to me.

Whoever didn't lockout/tagout (or at least shut down) the ride when it went down is the one who was at fault for that accident.

They unloaded people with a cherry picker from the drop tower at Castles n' Coasters in Phoenix last year when it got stuck mid tower. Looks like they were doing the same here just forgot to cut the power incase the power returned. What a horrible sight, as I'm sure it was horrible for everyone to witness. May their recovery be quick and as painless as possible. :(

I thought the same thing Jeff.... but the audio does state that. That, and that tower is certainly more than 27 meters tall.

Whatever the height, that is one scary thing, and I do hope they pull through. Terrible.

Was this featured on the CB news at all?

I have a friend who speaks Japanese and translated what the reporter said, he said:
"4 deaths"
"6 injuries"
"unconfirmed reports of foul play reported"

Mistakes like that really boil my blood. Needless death because someone forgot common sense.

Idiots for not taking the time to Lock Out/Tag Out or at least hit the E-Stop.

That should never happen.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't a power failure throw a major fault trouble light, and cause an estop anyhow?

Who knows.

I had the same line of thinking as you Xander, but then I remembered many "vertical" rides slowly return to their home position when the e-stop is pressed.

And come to think of it, who was the moron on the cherry picker not using a fall protection line?!

God, this was just one mistake after another.
