Just wanted to let you guys know that YES, the Coaster is Corkscrew at playland. The rest of the coaster on screen is CGI enhancement. The Coaster is actually only 75' high, with a dismal 68 foot drop, but the CGI turns it into a beast of a Coaster. So theres your official answer. Yes it's corkscrew, and yes it's CGI. Also, if anyone sees the movie, the station of the ride is fake, and in a studio. They really made a fantasy ride in the movie. You'll never see this coaster in real life. Except for the real parts of it.

That coaster is the same corkscrew coaster that came from boblo island.

As far as that trailer goes, it's not too far fetched. Once, I got out of a restraint when I didn't want to ride the rest of the ride. Fortunately, the train didn't derail killing most people onboard or I would have had two swords dislodge off the wall and kill me when I went to my brothers house.

I think the scene looks pretty cool, from the trailer. Definitely looks CGI'ish at points, buta cool looking sequence anyways...

Wow...its just a movie. Get over it! Even though the release isn't too far away (February), there's a good chance that some of what is seen in the trailer won't be how the final sequence is. There is some of it that just looks awful, but the final version will probably look slightly less awful.

I was a huge fan of the first movie (just for the record the airplane scene was supposed to be like the actual incident...but that doesn't make it any less creepy), but the second movie turned me off quite a bit. I'll see this one eventually, but its up for debate whether is theater worthy (probably will depend on if we get a free screening here at school).

I just wish they would have done it with a wooden coaster and had the whole thing collapse on itself as the train when plowing through the supports, causing..well..use your imagination.

I have to admit, I liked FD 1 as well and actually thought it was kinda creepy, especially John Denver singing. :O

I liked the first movie, the second movie was really out there, this doesn't look good.

I think the first initial death sequence opener for both of the 2 previous films were bone chilling to me, I really think they will make this one no exception. As far as the rest of the movie, I think it gets super cheesy because it seems that all of the effort was put into the first death sequence to keep you hooked but the core of the movie sucked the big one with the exception of the end of part 2 with the kid and the barbque grill that was too funny, but I was kinda reluctant at using my gas grill for a while, so it did kinda leave an impression on me a bit. Part 3 will probably have a super impressive, heart stopping opener, then the rest of the film will be garbage. Hopefully this will be a good movie, but it seems like everyone is passing the not a good movie judgement on a prelim trailor that might be edited like most trailors are closer to the films opening.

They rushed the trailer to put it with Saw II, so alot of stuff was unfinished. The actual movie will look so much better.

so, hopefully there are people in the cars in that last shot when the train crashes against the displaced rail, that would make the movie so much better!

SVLFever - i studied that bit carefully - if you freeze frame the coaster cars are clearly pre-master material - they have no texture, illumination, reflection, correct movement - they've used a work-in-progress storyboard rendering, presumably coz they wanted to shove the trailer out there, and the finished article will be much better - based on the other deaths in the trailer, i should think the coaster is the most fx-heavy shot, and it's post-production time will be long because of it.

EDIT: As a side note, it's unusual for studios to put out pre-master quality fx shots in trailers - possibly the gfx studio missed the deadline for that particular shot.... *** Edited 11/2/2005 3:44:46 PM UTC by Bazzanoid***

It is unusual for an unfinished FX shot to make it in a trailor but it does happen. You might not have realized this, but take X-Men for an example; in the first movie trailor that made it trough, For Halle berry's eyes, you could clearly see that she was wearing some god awful contacts but in the actual movie at that exact moment it looks so much better. Sometimes the dialoge is edited. Now for this movie they have plenty of time to edit details to ensure a high impact experience. Honestly I doubt anyone other than coaster savvy peeps would even notice things that were called out in these threads anyway. But just to bring awarness of the movie they had to use what they had and unfortunately it was not a finished product and if it was, I hope that studio doesn't use that team again for qualities sake. *** Edited 11/3/2005 9:11:16 PM UTC by Magicmike***

Like someone else said it would have been better if it were an old school wooden coaster. Like some boardwalk type. I could actually see wheels falling off, crashing the supports, somebody actually getting out of the restraints. An awesome derailing into a lake. This movie like the others is not about the death scene being absolutely horrid, although they had much more gore in FD2. Its more about the mystery of death, how it will happen, you never see it coming until it is just about to happen. For instance in the first one look at the bus accident if you look in the background you can clearly see where the bus was to come from, was completely blocked. Its a mystery/suspense, not a horror flick. All in all I am sure it will look better in the final cut, that is unless its a different crew doing this movie. Besides is this cut from the dream or the "real life" sequence of events?

I guess they didn't go with a wooden coaster because it was done already in the movie "Rollercoaster" Now that was an intense crash. Ran chills up my spine.
