Your home parks.......... years ago.

1) The Thunderhawk was painted a true yellow-gold (close to the Idora Wildcat's yellow color), and the station was an enormous building that was cramped, dark, and humid, but had such a wonderful traditional charm about it.
2) In front of/under the Thunderhawk sat the Journey To The Center Of The Earth, a PTC mill chute with a drop, and next to that was a Traver Circle swing with rockets.

At least I am not the only one who remembers Journey...cute little ride..and wasn't thunderhawk in a different location? Why can't I remember it being where it is now..unless i am looking at it in a different direction.

Wow. I just realized, this year will be my 10th year of going to SFGAm. I still remember my first visit. The Tidal Wave was so tall! It was scary, too. I didn't go on it, and said I would next year (this is 1991... I now regret that choise, but hey, at the time I was 5 or 6!) Shockwave scared me to death, it continued to do so for 3 more years. Also, I went on my first rollercoaster, the Whizzer, which seemed much taller at the time. I cried when I got off (hey, I was a little kid!) I remember Rolling Thunder, and it's entrance being what seemed like a stupid spot, but now I just read that it was for a Great Southwest expansion with Mariott, I know why it was there (and now it's used for the Southwest Territory.) I remeber going on the American Eagle, red train. My mom was with me, and she said it would be ok. We went up 1,000,000 feet into the air, and fell 2,000,000 feet. I hated it, but by the end of the day, I relized I loved it! Also, I went on the Demon at the end of that day. It seemed smooth to me. Was it considerably smoother in 1991? I don't know, it was a long time ago and I was a little kid. If you know, tell me. Also, the worst thing was... my mom and dad wouldn't let me go on Sky Whirl! Then, 2 years later, I went on it with one of my dad's friends, and we hated it! So, from the 1st ride of Sky Whirl, I hated it. Boring, long, and stupid. Also, I remeber 1992 when I went, the police car in Batman's queue was rust-free! I stood in line for that for 2 or 3 hours so my mom and dad could go on it, and me and someone else walked through (I kind of wanted to go on it, but I was too short still.)

I'm going to stop typing now, I'm missing Letterman and I'm probably boring you, if you've even read this far!

I do remember that Thunderhawk was an out and back..wasn't it painted white though?
Also the paratrooper was in the center of the park and now its on the hill next to the ferris wheel

Ahhh Kennywood.....The Lazer Loop stood where PR is...There used to be a kiddie coaster where the Raging Rapids now stands...The Ranger (Pirate ship that went all the way around use to stand where the Ferris Wheel was...Lost Kennywood was a parking lot...The Whip was back near the Log Jammer...The Rotor was next to the Bumber cars which is now at Idlewilde Park...same as the caterpillar...BUT the fries have been in the same place for as long as I can remember!!!!

Knoebels is my home park but coasterpunk did a good job with that one so i'll say a few things about my home away from home park, hershey.

I remember the coal shaker, kind of like a tea cups with about five turntables down near where flying falcon is.

They had a rotor down next to the comet.

A monster ride called the timber rattler, down in the frontier area before the whole midway america thing happened. I think there was some kind of accident on that ride once, not long before they shut it down.

Then there was the old skyride, one of the stations is now home to great bear. That was great for avoiding the hills before you get to minetown.

A frontier meeting house/upside down house. That wasn't too popular though.

I know there was lots more before my time.

Dorney was actually used in the movie hairspray. They had one of those real old jet rides that hung by cables and went around in a circle. That's all I can remeber there.

Does anyone remember some kind of dark ride way back in the day at dorney? I think it was called a meteor or astroid or something like that.

Kings Island - The Enchanted Voyage, Bayern Kurve (sp), Bavarian Beetle, Screamin' Demon - always scared the crap out of me going backwards, Flying Dutchmen, Tumble Bug. Not complaining - I haven't been there in years but I just hate the thought of rides being taken out.

My original home home park was Willow Mills amusement park in Mechanicsburg. They had The Red Streaker out and back woodie, The radar(double sided Ferris wheel that turned in circles,) The Paratroopers, and The big slide were my favorites there. All the rides are gone and it is a park for the surrounding neighborhood. I hate to see that happen.

Hersheypark is my other home park, and there was alot of changes over the years. When I first went there the only coasters were the Comet, Trailblazer, and The Sooperdooperlooper was brand new and very popular. IT was the first looping coaster(Swartzkopf like S said in a previous post about the other rides they used to have.
The Rotor is now where the Tilt and whirl is.
The Timber Rattler was replaced with the Rodeo.
The Coal Shaker used to be housed in what is now some games Minetown Restaraunt.
The old Skyride was great, but it is now reduced to being a hotdog stand and the Great Bear's station.
The Frontier meeting house is now an arcade.

Its great to watch a park transform over time. They now have 5 more great coasters, a bunch of water rides, and the whole new themed Midway America. Hersheypark has come a long way since the mid 70's. The sooperdooperlooper(Schwarzkopf)had just been built and was the first steel looping coaster on the east coast. It was really popular. To me now it is pretty tame, but a coaster to ride none the less. I am looking forward to what else is coming our way.

My old home park is SFSTL. I remember going there every year on my birthday. The Screamin' Eagle was SO new then, and I came extremely close to falling out of it. Scared the pee right out of me. I remember when the took out the Sky Ride and the Parachutes. The Jet Scream was a killer ride for it's time but was taken out. Then we were set to get one of the first stand up roller coasters in America..The RAIL BLAZER. It ran only a few times then a woman fell to her death on it. The ride never reopened with stand up cars on it. The old mine train was torn down and it's cars were put on rail blazers tracks so as to make room for Ninja. It used to be colored different too. Red tracks and white supports. Now the tracks are black w/white supports. I remember that during halloween they would turn Times Tunnel into some MAJOR scary stuff and they colored the water RED like blood. Not sure what Times Tunnel is called today. Last time I went, it was closed down. SFSTL still to this day never ceases to amaze me and bring back childhood memories. In fact, just last year my aunt and I went on my birthday. Been a long time since that's happened. :)
