Vekoma Boomerangs should get Lap Bar Restraints!!

Hey, after hearing about the OT:FoF trains getting Lapbars, with four inversions, I thought that since Boomerangs are pretty boring, some parks should spice them up with lap bars, instead of OTSRs. I also think Vekoma should manufacture a sit down train for Boomerangs, where in every car, the 4 seats face each other. Basically, A sit down Invertigo train with lap bars. Cool idea, eh?

Cool idea. I can see that car design, too. Just have the car's body basically be a big bin with chairs in it.

Laser Does Not Have OTSR's

Going backwards through a boomerang with lap bars doesn't sound like a good idea.

I thought about that too PhantomLives, but it's a great idea. Put lap bars on all coasters...oh, that would be a little scary on Alpie and invertigos though, lol.

Coastergenius, I can't think of an instance where wheels "slipped the tracks" Many boomerangs have disengaged the second lift sled too early resulting in the train valleying in the boomerang. That's why many have stairs and a platform in the valley of the boomerang. I saw it happen on the Vampire at SFKK. However, I don't think that would necessitate OSTRs, as everyone is right side up when a train valleys there.

It's possible that you are referring to an incident I don't recall. Can you please provide a link?

There was an incident on a Boomerang where the lift cable snapped after the station brakes released but before the catchwagon released from the train. The connection between the train and the catchwagon cannot roll, so when the train went into the first sidewinder (first inversion), the catchwagon jammed, sticking the train in the first inversion with the back cars inverted or partially inverted.
I don't recall which Boomerang that was.

Of course, I'm gonna tell you that all looping coaster (except possibly stand-up and flying coasters) should have lap bars rather than shoulder bars on them, and that the 'what if it gets stuck' argument is not a good one, citing the Walibi incident in Belgium.

I was just thinking about this the other day. What an improvement that would be. Besides it would make Knotts the only park besides PKI to have 2 looping coasters without OTSR's.

Dave probably knows a lot more about it than I, but a Schwarzkopf shuttle loop got stuck upsidedown at one of the Walabi parks in Europe. It had only lap bars, and there were no serious injuries, and fewer injuries than the Demon produced when it got stuck upside with with OTSR, if I remember correctly.

I think if they made some improvements, they wouldn't get stuck and Viola! I think it would really give Boomerangs a better rep.

My question: What was the first amusement ride to use a shoulder bar to secure riders? So far I haven't found any examples that predate the Knotts Berry Farm Corkscrew. Anybody else know of any early shoulder bars?

Considering that it was the Corkscrew that required the OTSR due to slow speed through the inversions, it's would be highly likely that Knott's was the first as they had the first install of the Corkscrew.

I think that horsecollars are necessary with loopers that actually have -Gs like Volcano, but most loops have G force in the inversions rather then -G's.

I remember seeing this on the news a while back. I don't know all of the laws, but I believe they may have some part in actually allowing loopers to run without shoulder harnesses. However, I can think of one in most states so I guess there is no limitation with that. Hopefully, if parks notice how Flight of Fear went from hated to loved with only one simple change, they will consider the same thing.
