Steel Dragon SBNO

I was browsing rcdb when I saw that Steel Dragon 2000 was SBNO which sounded strange. Then I remembered the incident with the wheel in 2003. So my question is: why hasn't Spa Land fixed this 30 million dollar plus behemoth? After all, they only got 3 years profits out of it.

Apparently it's because of superstition, or so I have heard.

Yeah thats pretty weird though. I though it had open back up by now. I'm gonna see if I can find any info on it.

J. Lennon I thought it was more like 50 million plus. I agree it boggles the mind that an expensive ride can just sit like that because of superstition, especially when no one was killed from the incident. Riding SD2K has always been a fantasy of mine, I drool looking at that layout. ;)

It's hard for us to comprehend their level of superstition. They are such an insanly (in a good way) meticulous and precice people that when something goes wrong that shouldn't it's very hard to accept.

Macho Nachos: It's a very nice coaster (not even in my Top 5 or maybe top 10 steel), but just go ride Steel Force, or better yet Mamba. Same thing, just a little smaller.

Aw Peabody don't rub it in about Steel Force! We made a first ever Pennsylvania trip at the beginning of this month and my buddy wimped out and didn't wanna go to Dorney! I have yet to experience a Morgan Hyper, excluding Steel Phantom, which was NICE, but of course most of you around here already knew that. ;)
I can understand the superstition thing but I still shake my head thinking of it just sitting there for such a long time.

Wouldn't suprise me if the coaster reopened on a 'lucky' numbered year. I think 7 is a luck number, so, maybe 7 years after it closed, or 2007, or something.

I doubt they'd leave it standing if they weren't going to re-open it.

Isn't that like, every 7 years, or 12, or something? I hope it opens by sept. of 2006, but with the new Tower of Terror and a possible 4D, and *more*, I'll be happy in Japan regardless.

Counter Point - do obviously have NO clue how expensive it would be to dismantle Steel Dragon, ship it overseas to the US, and then construct it.

YES. I only rode SD2K like 3 times. Must have ridden White Cyclone like 25 times. MAN I wish it was closer! Loaded with air, and not rough at all that day.

White Cyclone is sweet. I really liked SD2K as well, but like Peabody, I'd chose WC anyday over it. Just a different animal. Smooth, and clearances that you really can't imagine. :)
