SFOG GASM flooded

I would assume Mindbender's lower portions are/were in a similar state.

It'd be nice if they had a decent sized picture instead of that thumbnail-esque one. lol.

The GASM has flooded like that many times since it was built. I had a suspicion that if the Atlanta area got the rains they were calling for that the river by GASM would flood.

I left Atlanta yesterday (Sunday 7-10) just as the rains started. Thank God! Driving in Atlanta during normal weather is bad enough, let alone driving in rain! :)

Dude, that's so weird to think that I've walked through that parking lot and ridden the rides that are now flooded.

Even weirder to think that you've ridden rides there that were also previously flooded.

I was going to say, didn't this flood last year too due to a hurricane? ;)

Damn, another reason to pull "it was the weather" card when confronted by the "why did SFI do soo poorly this year" big wigs...

Not THAT unusual for parts of SFoG to flood...low-lying areas and all.

Did get to see SFoT flooded last year, when the park opened the next day, Titan and Giant were...wet. They opened later on in the day. It was a LATER flood that actually took poor ShockWave down - thankfully SFoT recognized the importance of the ride and saved the ride. Did look close for a while there though...

You're right Bill, but I don't recall water ever being high enough to notice Ninja's track from the station to the lift being submerged.

There was an awful lot of water, to be sure.

I thought that I read somewhere that gasm was built with flooding in mind. Thats the reason the track does not get too close to the water.

I've often wondered why so many parks (past & present) build next to flood prone rivers. Think back to Coney Island Ohio and the floods that park saw back when they had coasters. Maybe it's the appeal of having a park near a river. I think it helped with access to the park back then as well. Coney Ohio eventually moved it's operation to higher ground in Kings Mill.

I wonder if SFoG ever considered a move to higher ground?

You know swampfoxer, I wonder the same thing, When I used to live in Great Lakes, IL, SFGAm was my home park, and about once every year it would flood. It wasn't big flooding like SFoG, but enough to shut down some of the park. Don't take my word on it though, I havn't been to SFGAm in a long time. I belive the river was the Des Plaines River, not sure. lol All I remember is the news chopper shooting the drains taking in water on the midways.
