Accident on log flume in NJ.

There was a short story on the news tonight about a family of 5 getting injured on a log flume ride in Atlantic city NJ.

It looked like a traveling log flume ride, not a park model. I hope that the family is going to be ok.

But seriously I hope its nothing serious. You go to an amusement park to have fun and you don't want something bad to happen like that.

How can you call a ride the big splash with no water at the bottom. ;)

I've heard of some extreme upcharge Vegas Attractions, but man Atlantic City "wipes out" all competition with this one. ;)

Seriously though, I hope the man is alright.

That exact model had a different type of accident down in Miami back in March during the annual Fair Expo. It was a ride op error that found a teen girl breaking her face after splashdown -- it closed down the ride for a bit, but it was back up before the fair ended.

Alright...can someone explain to me how this could happen?

Don't flume rides, by their nature, if they e-stop, doesn't all the water pool at the bottom of the flume?

They have the same type log flume ride at the michigan state fair every year. If I remember, the water at the bottom of the ride is needed to brake the speed of the log when it drops.

Many log flumes drain their water into storage basins (separate from the track) when they're E-stopped. But usually it seems like it drains when all of the boats are stopped on lifts or in the station. *** Edited 6/19/2005 8:04:36 PM UTC by Cameraman***

There should be a water level sensor at the bottom of the runout. A boat shouldn't be allowed to crest the hill if the water's too low or too high. That's how all flumes I've seen operate, anyhow.

Of all places to have an accident it doesn't surprise me it happened at Steel Pier.

I have been to Steel Pier a few times but never ridden anything there because I just don't like the way the park or the rides look. It almost looks like a carnival (complete with the annoying game operators asking everyone walking by to try out their rigged games like the basketball game with the oval basket rim) rather than an amusement park.
