No Hypers At Paramount?!
Disclamer: Now I may be wrong on this... but from my research, I found nothing...
Hypersonic XLC cannot be counted since that is considered an Air-Launched Verticle coaster, and not hyper.
Does Paramount have a personal vendetta against hypers?
You have B&M, Arrow, & Intamin that make hypers/gigas... why is that Paramount doesn't have any?
Are there rumors for the future seasons?
Can someone please tell me why there are absolutely no hyper coasters at any of the Paramount parks (ie: Canada's Wonderland, Carowinds, Kings Island, Kings Dominion, & Great America)??

There have been rumors for YEARS about PKI getting hyper, but that's all they are, rumors. Don't believe anything unless it's an official Paramount press release.
Many people consider SOB a hyper since it's over 200 feet, but I think you are referring to "traditional hypers".
Also, if 200 feet is your definition for a hyper, Hypersonic isn't even close, it's 165 feet.

Well, if you dont consider SOB a hyper, then why are hypers only stated as being 200ft plus? It doesnt specify the make of the coaster, so wood can be included in this. After that statement, yes, Paramount has a hyper. Hypersonic doesnt reach 200ft at PKD, so why is that coaster even being brought up?

Hypersonic is not even close to 200ft in one place, SOB Is considered a Hyper it has a 214 ft drop and is 218 high but its a woody. I know PGA has a 175 ft hight requirement and they might accually get a hyper type coaster 175 high. PKI is really hinting they might possibly get some for of one for 2002. This trend will change!
(Ooh! Another thread that makes the "What do you consider a hypercoaster?" poll attractive... ;))

You know as well as I do that if a buzz poll was created for this the overwhelming thing would be anything over 200ft. Personally I think it is silly. They should just classify steel coasters without loops as one category. The wood coasters should just stay as wood coasters no matter how tall they are or if they have loops. It is just a marketing tool that unfortunately us enthusiasts have become attached to.

Actually, this wasn't meant to be "What do you consider to be a hypercoaster"... as much as just "why no Paramount park has a real hyper coaster".
SOB MAY be considered a hyper... but how many hypers do you know contain a true inversion? How many true hypers do you know of which are made of wood? None... SOB is basically just a fast & tall wooden coaster.
I was referring to Intamin hyper/gigas like Superman: Ride of Steel & Millennium Force-type coasters; B&M hypers like Apolo's Chariot & Nitro; Giovanola hypers like Goliath; and Arrow hypers like Magnum & Phantom's Revenge!!
Absolutely no Paramount park has anything of such... and wondering if it's their strategy, they're waiting the game, or if they think it's just unnecessary?!

Simply, Paramount doesnt need hypers. Paramount, as a chain, has gone the innovative route as opposed to jumping on the bandwagon. I mean look at all the innovations that debuted at Paramount parks: Gyro-Drops, Nick: FSS, OL:FOF (first to use LIMs), Stealth, Sonny, etc. Whereas the other chains (SFI, CF, Busch) have gone with the more conventional hypers & inverts. I give Paramount that credit, they arent afraid to push the envelope a bit. Kudos to them!
Besides, if every park had the same line up of coasters (sit down looper, hyper, invert, woodie, etc.) things would get real "Vanilla" real quick.

See! This is where it gets interesting... Sure, over 200 ft., but what does that mean? 200' tall, or 200' drop?
And what about loops?

Sure, you think that, but others would disagree. We've all heard people say SOB is a "hypercoaster," even though it's wooden and has a loop.
There's never going to be a specific definition, that's for sure. I certainly wouldn't consider the poll the final word, either. I'm just interested in seeing what people's opinions are...
And isn't that what polls are for? ;)

Really how many times do we have to go through this. Look at the first hyper coaster (Magnum XL-200). It is 200ft. a Hyper coaster must be 200ft + not have a drop of 200ft because the original doesn't have a 200ft drop. Now from what I remember , a hyper does not have any loops.
At this point, I don't care if some people are getting tired of it, I think we need to have a poll on a lot of things they we have discussed to death so we know the percentage on what people think. Things like:
What is a hyper?
What is concidered a loop
Is Superman: The escape a coaster
Things like that. I would like to know what is everyones opinons on some of them and get it over with

Paramount may pick out some innovative coasters, but a proven ride like a hypercoaster would be more stable than many of the coasters they've built in the last few years. Look at the all the coasters they've built that have had significant downtime. While it's too soon to tell, I hope we don't have to add Hypersonic to that list.
I think we had the S:TE poll a while ago, but I could be dreaming.
I don't see what the problem is with my suggestion. I'm not enforcing my views about "hypercoasters" on anyone, just saying I think getting a general idea from the CoasterBuzz clientele would be interesting.
