PKI parking - get ready to walk....
I forgot about another new 'addition' to this season. Gold Season Pass parking area. That's right. If you thought that 'premium parking' was bad, wait until you see where you'll have to walk from if you don't have a gold pass or pay for the premium parking. The first (roughly)10 sections of the south parking lot have been poled off as 'Gold Parking'. That consists of 1/3rd of the south end lot. The north side is unaffected, other than the aforementioned premium parking. Happy walking!
Thanks Chris, you're making that Gold Upgrade sound better already. What the heck, $10, isn't bad for a parking pass upgrade to add to my free parking pass.

I can see how this might effect people that come to the park from Cincinnati, but as far as coming from the North, the parking situation is no different than last year! I have a gold pass, but I think the only time I might use the gold parking area will be when I get to the park later in the day and there are no close spots available on the north side...

North side and south side doesn't make a world of difference when they only open one of the parking gates, usually the south.

As of yesterday, the signage still said $7 to park, $10 for preferred parking.
Anybody else read the editorial in the most recent Amusement Today? Am I the only person who thinks Slade is absolutely correct?

I can only speak for myself. But I suspect that people are more willing to pay more at the ticket window than at the parking shed or at the grab joint. Take the desired parking revenue, divide it by the number of expected patrons, and adjust the gate price accordingly. That's what Holiday World does (heck, Holiday World adds float tubes and beverages into the equation!). I say, go Mr. Slade one better. Make the parking "free" and roll it into the admission price. And if a big chain park...promote the heck out of the "free" parking.

If they really have cordonned off a significant portion of the lot for "Preffered" or "Gold Card Holders" parking, then they had better restore the tram service to its former glory. Otherwise I can hear the complaints in GR now

Irate Guest: "How dare you have the nerve to charge me an outrageous $7 to park so far out it takes me 20 MINUTES to walk to the front gate" or similar.
I encourage everybody who has to pay $7 to park in Deep South, to WALK past empty Gold Pass or Preffered parking to loudly voice your complaints to PKI GR. Of course you will probably get fed the same line RideMan and I got last year "If you can keep this lot clean, paved, painted, staffed, etc without the $7 parking fees, you two can come up and do it"
Before Paradump took over, KI had several LARGE parking trams that dropped people off at convenient points through the lot.
Then during the Paramount years, the tram routes got to the point where it was often easier to walk from the gate to your car. (e.g. my favorite parking spot used to be in the North lot, in the first few spots in the first few rows by the big electronic sign. Why, that was also where the first stop on the North Tram was, right in front of passenger pick up. Then Paramount came,and that stop was discontinued, and it became easier to park in the front half of the lot or towards the center driveway. Then things got worse, and if the park needed some staff, they pulled the tram drivers and put up "Sorry, No Tram Service Today" signs up in the tram circle. Then the highe signs which indidcated which tram to get on based on which character section you were parked in, then the trams gor reduced to like 1 car each, and run sporadically at best.

So far this new 'Gold Parking' area has confused me because I don't know how they can enforce it. (we'll find out tonight....hehe) There isn't a booth as far as I could tell that limits who can come in, like the preferred parking area has, just a bunch of white poles. My guess is with a gold pass, you'll get a gold parking sticker for the windshield, otherwise I don't know of a way that they can tell if a car belongs to a gold pass member. (I haven't gotten my gold pass yet. Maybe someone who does can elaborate.) To me, this new area wouldn't be problematic if they had a full tram staff like they did when I worked there back in 87. (I loved working in trams back then...anyway...) I don't think people would get upset by it then. Otherwise, the general public might just have a field day with this one....

They didn't give anything different. The only difference is the pass is physically gold. I figure they will have someone there checking passes when someone pulls into that area. When I was at the park Wednesday, I didn't think the area marked off was that big. I've gotten a pass the last 3 years, and I've almost never gone to the park before noon or 1:00, and Parking really was never that bad, I thought. I never had to walk more than about 3 minutes. However, I was also in college, so walking 15-20 minutes to class made walking to the gate seem extremely easy.

I am so tired of PKI's crap. I enjoy myself less and less every time. At least they have the proper bars on FOF.
