Huss Topple Tower in action

tricktrack

The first Huss Topple Tower is ready to tumble at Bellewaerde Park (Belgium).

An original and thrilling idea for a family ride, that is well themed and should be a big seller for Huss.

Thanks for the link, man that does look pretty cool, I like how they themed it to somewhat look like one of those drinking birds, at least that is how I see it. It looks like it could be a lot of fun, hope it is successful, so maybe some American parks will add this ride.

Wondering how many horsepower or how much torque that motor must put out to swing that tower back upwards....I also gotta wonder what kind of maintenance the structure itself is gonna require, the forces on that thing are gonna be unreal.

But then again, what do I know?

You really can't see it because of the view, but apparently there is a huge counterweight on the other end of the ride-this would take a huge load off of the motors that actually tilt the ride.

Definitely a nice job of theming. Wonder when/if we'll see one of these in the states. The falling sensation may freak people out more than drop towers.

I want to live where it's all the same. I want to live where it's all just like today. I want to live where it's always Saturday.

Cool! Thanks for the link.

That counterweight would have to weigh a couple tons. Unless, the arm continues below grade, and has some sort of trench to travel in. Otherwise the leverage would require a very, very heavy counterweight.

But then again, what do I know?

That looks great. Does the "disc" spin while its toppling? Huss is so damn cool! ;)

If it's hinged at ground level as it appears to be, a trench wouldn't be out of the question. I'm curious to see pics that show the working bits of this ride.

I never thought it would topple this far!

Here are a few construction pics, that show the holding mechanism for the counterweight:

Huss has a nice animation on their site: http://www.hussrides.com/digitalvideo/quicktime/ToppleTower.mov

I think you can see the counterweight in this photo:

Looks like a brown shark's fin towards the right hand third of the photo.

Looks like a really fun ride. Should be quite an easy park for me to get to.

Must say the ride looks mighty impressive that's for sure. Very unique. I just dont know If im a huge fan of the bird, kinda creepy if you ask me ;). Any bets on what US park will be the first to get one ?, lol. *** Edited 4/3/2005 2:50:49 AM UTC by SFDLdan***

I know what you mean about the bird. I think it's great, but I guess it could look a bit sinister from certain angles. It looks like the ride is themed like some kinda totem pole, so I don't think it is supposed to be a very acurate representation - I think that the one at the other Walibi park will be the 'real' bird from what I've seen.

After checking out that video, I have 2 comments...

I still think that the counterweight has to be HUGE to counter the weight and forces at the top of the tower. Just leverage alone says that the weight has to be at least 5x the weight of the car.

And does the whole tower SPIN like in the video? I don't mean the car, I mean the whole structure? If so, that's pretty wild...

But then again, what do I know?
