motion sickness

How many of you get motion sickness, not even to the point of vomiting, but even just a messed up stomach feeling and what do you do for it. I have to take Dramamine 1/2 hour before going on rides and they make you feel zombied out all day. :(

I get it too....that is why I can't do spin-n-pukes. I take Bonine (makes you less tired than Dramamine) but still makes you out of it. I chew on dried ginger too. That seems to help so I don't have to take as much Bonine.

Not a bit, personally. I could eat a holiday (Thanksgivingish) dinner and go on any coaster, no problem. After riding Raptor 10 times in a row one evening (as an employee) I was getting a bit messed up in the head, but not nauseous. My husband, though, is suceptible to motion sickness, and he can't handle circulars or the swinging ship style rides, but coasters are fine so long as he gets a few minutes in between each one. He stays right there with me! :)

Actually I prefer to eat before going on coasters or spinning rides. An empty stomach doesn't sit well with me. If not I will get a little nauseous (sp?)

Coasters don't bother me, but flat rides sometimes do especially Tea Cups and Mad Cows. I often take Dramamine, so I can ride them all.

The only problem that I ever had with motion sickness was going on the Viking's Rage (pirate boat) at PCW +25 times in a row while eating a meal on the ride. There was no waits at the park, so we considered the boat a good 'break' ride to eat our food!!!

It wasn't too bad though, all that me and my 3 other buddies had to do was rest for 20 mins. Then we continued coasting for 4 more hours, practically non-stop.

I guess we all have a high tollerance for motion sickness!!!

I am not a big breakfast person, unless I eat out. Therefore, the first 2 hours in the morning at a park can be bad because I can get a bit queezy if I don't have food. For that reason, I try to eat a huge breakfast before going to a park.

I feel the same way jdancisin. Unless it's a ride like that Spider ride, and I go on it over and over.

I just "puff puff" and I can take ANY ride. It may be considered bad, may be illicit, and I personally don't approve of it, but I'll do it at (or before going to) a park any time.

I hope that's not "too much" for these forums. I apologize moderators, if it is.

I've been on rides right after eating and with an empty stomach and have never noticed any problems. But a whirl-n-hurl/spin-n-puke/whatever could do it to me. Recently I was in a whirl-n-hurl marathon and I lasted for 6 rides straight (the op let us stay in the spinner during down-time) but I was messed up for the next hour or so. But it was worth it... I love those things.

Let's not turn this into a drug thread ;). We already had a booze thread a while back. Maybe it was on GTTP, I don't remember. Shows what kind of people are on this site, you bunch of raging alcholics ;).

I don't get motion sickness on roller coasters. But when I fish on a boat in the ocean I do. What really works well for me is taking a Pepcid and half the normal dose of Dramamine or Bonine. That way I don't feel too zonked out to enjoy the day.

Oh good, I thought I was the only one that had this problem...

I can't take flat rides at all.

For coaster ERT sessions I have to take a few breaks here and there. But part of my problem is I have to drive at least 90 minutes to get to any park, and the drive takes a bit out of me (my 91 Civic rides a bit rough), so I'm already at a disadvantage unless I can con someone else into driving -- and none of my friends are into coasters as much as I am. :p

For Millennium Mania last year I did something *really* dumb -- I drove 5.5 hours and immediatly got out of the car and went directly for my very first ride ever on Millennium Force. :) I was a bit dizzy getting off that... not sick or anything, just to where that Dramamine they were conveniently selling at the exit started lookin reeeeal good... and I was only able to get 4 rides on MF all night even though I wanted to do more.

I've never ever tried Dramamine though (was worried about the drowsiness side effects), and never heard of Bonine; I'll have to try that next time. (Maybe I'll beta-test the idea at the PKI preview on Friday night.) Thanks for the tip. Oh, that and for Coastermania and Millennium Mania, I'm getting a hotel that's 5 hours closer to Sandusky.

A full stomach helps too.

I cant handle spin and pukes ether, but I found out that if you take deep breaths while riding, you wont be as bad.

Never got motion sickness here.

When we visited Busch Gardens Tampa, my wife and I got on this little flat ride called "Sand Storm". She really got sick on that one. In the words of the ride-op when she came to undo the "gate" to the car... "Uh oh... We got a hurler!"

Two days later we were at Sea World. I handled 5 rides in a row on Kraken, but my wife could only do two. She wasn't sick, but she did feel a bit "woozy" as she put it, so learning her lesson from Sand Storm, she sat out the other 3 rides.

She then thought I was crazy for doing one final ride (my 6th) on Kraken after lunch (3 pieces of fried chicken, french fries, large coke, piece of cherry cheese cake). Said if she would have done that it would have been a repeat of her "incident" two days before.

I can't do flat rides. Vortex at PKI is the only coaster that makes me nauseous. The boomerang/helix finale kills me.

It's funny, I can do vertical circles over and over (Rock o' Plane, loops) and I'm fine, but horizontal circles (round-up, tilt-a-whirl) and it's not long before I'm talking to Ralph on the big white phone.

I have no problems with coasters but flat rides make me sick as a dog. I tried Dramamine for the first time last year and loved it. I was able to ride everything, even Storm (tea cup type ride) at IOA. I didn't have a problem with drowsiness, like I've heard most people talk about. Then again, antihistimines don't make drowsy like most people and caffiene doesn't keep me awake (that's why I don't drink it anymore.) I guess you could say my body works backwards.
