Northeast warmer then Midwest? (On average)

I ask this because the parks in the northeast region are opening up 3 weeks to a month before the midwest parks do. I checked the weather channel and I really dont see much of a difference this time of year as far as temperatures go. Am I missing something?

Well, I've lived in Ohio and Upstate NY, and NY is FAR colder than Ohio. It's not even a question.

The problem in Northern Ohio and Western New York is Lake Erie. It is still damn cold out there and it can affect weather in a big way. It's all about the wind direction. Why does Buffalo get hammered with snow? Wind picks up moisture from the lake and dumps it en masse. When winds shift out of the north, Cleveland gets it (like the weekend before last).

Long story longer: It's not uncommon to have a 30 degree temperature spread this time of year. Less than ideal conditions to open an amusement park.

I know, the easiest way I have heard the "Lake Effect" expalined is to think of each of the great lakes as an inland ocean, you'll get the same effects as you would if you lived by an actual ocean.

We got lake effect snow yesterday and it came down hard 4inches in a couple of hours(melted by late afternoon), I live close to lake erie but I also live right on a pretty big lake(lake chataqua), when the lake's are unfrozen is when it take's place.

You have to remember though, that SFGAm has buyouts which start April 14th. So, sure it doesn't open to the general public till May 5th. All the rides excluding the new rides will be open this weekend for ride testing and ride operator training.

Well than by that line of reasoning Buffalo should have the same climate as Seattle since they are both on an ocean, well on in on an "inland ocean" and both have the same lattitude.

Actually it is compared more to the Atlantic as opposed to the Pacific. The Atlantic pulls air down from the Artic region where as the Pacific pulls air up from the Equator. That is why weather patterns on the coasts (East and West) are so different. It's the prevailing westerlies (I think that's the name, don't quote me if I am wrong). Anyways NO they do not have the same climate...it almost seems as if Buffalo is closer to the Artic ring if you want to go by climate :)

All I know is I would rather be at SFGA in Cali or something, cause out here, its not the heat, its the humidity! in Arizona and all those states , its really nice, even at 110 degrees, but out here, when its like 90, and waiting in the Batman line or something, you feel like youre going to die,, that humidity kills you.

Aside from Lake effect snows, just look at a temperature map and on most winter or spring days you will see it is colder in the midwest than on the east coast. Of course since I'm saying this, when I checked today's map it is warmer in the midwest than on the east coast today.
