Glenwood Caverns coaster (Colorado)

I was just watching the news and they had a story about an attraction in the mountains called the Glenwood Caverns. They offer tours of caves and such. They have announced plans to open some thrill rides. One of them would be a first of a kind in the states coaster. It was called something like an alpine coaster, basically a new version of the alpine slide. They also showed a ride that seats 4 people and swings, it would be along the edge of a cliff. So it looks like there'll be even more to do in the Glenwood Canyon beside hanging out in those awesome hot springs, rafting, hiking, and wandering caves.

That's cool. We were in Glenwood Springs over the July 4th weekend last year(beautiful, beautiful area) and stayed right down the road from the Caverns. We had a free afternoon and had wanted to do them but instead went to the awesome hot springs pool they have there. We'd like to come back and get to those caverns sometime. Alpine slides sound like a lot of fun.

Sounds cool. I remember seeing the manufacturer site for the alpine coaster. Looked rather flimsy if you asked me...but a lot of fun. The model I saw was really long! Anybody remember that site?

But I remember this from about 20 years ago in the Poconos and the fun with it was you could fall off the track.

dragon...where in the Poconos was this alpine coaster/slide? I'd love to go up there and try it (a little day trip for me) if it still exists!

He may have been talking about the one at Camelback. Unfortunately, it closed in 2003 to make room for future expansion of the waterpark.

Yes, that was the one i was talking about and to my dismay it was closed. I'd drive up to Camelback, from outside Philly, just to ride that for the day. Nothing like pushing the stick all the way forward and going so fast you flopped out of the tracks after a high speed turn.

OK, time for a technical question....what prevents a collision of cars?

I have yet to ride one but I would assume that it kind of like using a waterslide. One at a time. As soon as one person has been cleared from the bottem, it is the next person's turn. Or I could be wrong.

On the old model I rode it was people spaced at certain distances and workers spaced down the slope with radios to clear the next car. BTW if someone went slow you could catch them and bump them. My brother and I did this many a time to each other or our parents. But the people would yell at you and could toss you out if you did it too much.

When I went in SD they just told me to go and no one was talking to them..... just a bunch of guessing!

Its funny because when you go on they give you all these safety tips... and with a warning that big, you know its gotta be fun!! LOL
