OMG! Anyone remember these backyard coasters?

I guess you had to be around in the 70's to remember this exact model:

This brought back so many memories! I begged my Dad to buy me one of these for Christmas waaaaay back then. I had so many cool toys at one time. Wish I had had the foresight to keep some of them.

It had this long straightaway that dumped the car off in the grass.

Looks cool and dangerous. Neat to have but I would not put my kid on there.

Meaning you'd ride it in a second if you were small enough, right?

Who wouldn't ride on it? I mean, I'd be scared but it'd be fun. I've always wanted a coaster in my backyard.

WEll you do have cycle it, as with any new coaster, with a dummy! Guess that would be me!

Has anyone seen the new-ish Little Tykes (Or is it Step2?) plastic version? It's not as tall but it looks hella safer.

Sheesh, I was around in the 70's and I still don't remember this.

Looks cool as hell though and I have two kids to use for an excuse...and both their B-day's are this fall so the wife wouldn't know it was really for me ;)

I don't see what looks so unsafe about it. It looks to be 3 feet tall at the most, the wheels are made to stay on the rails. I'd ride this thing and I'd stick my kids on it.

Heck, it's basically a small home version of something like the Bailey Auto Sled :)

Orrville, the home of Smuckers, is southwest of Akron, kinda north west of Canton.

It's about 4 hours from Cincinnati.

I wish there were 4 or 5 up for sale. ;)

My friend had something similar when he was a kid, but not as tall. He set up a frame to hold newspaper so he could burst through. The he had the bright idea to try it with flaming newspaper. Unfortunately it didn't work out as planned. The newspaper came off the frame and wrapped around him. So he's now flying down the drive way with burning newspaper hanging off of him and can't see where he's going. He was unharmed, but gave up on future attempts at this stunt. Oh, for a video camera in 1970....

fisher price currently makes a much smaller version for the kiddos, not nearly as fun looking as that, though!
