Knoebels Pioneer Train

Not really a coaster question, but close enough... Does anyone know who made this ride? The Knoebels website lists locations that the trains came from but no manufacturer.

The infernal combustion trains are Allen Herschel and or Miniature Train Co. There are several G-16 sets, plus a S-16 steam outline. The other train ride is an early Crown. *** Edited 8/17/2004 6:32:13 PM UTC by Dutchman***

Exactly. I don't have a precise roster of the gas equipment. Dick has been adding to the roster for years. The S-16 replaced a homemade train in 1960 and is an allen Herschell product. The same year they bought the Crown. Lately they have been buying up G-16's (Diesel outline) trains when they come up on the market. A lot of Zoos and attractions have replaced them with the omnipresent Chance C P Huntington. Some of them were bought for parts, but I understand that invariable each set got restored.

Which again, begs an answer to the question: Just how much stuff DOES Knoebels have in storage?

We may never know. Sometimes I think that even Dick may not know.

My guess is enough to start another park. From what I heard they don't throw anything out. They either try to use it for somthing else or keep it. I would love to see their storage area. I bet they have all kinds of cool things laying around.

I did hear they still have their Flying Cages. I imangine they probably have spare bumper cars, whip cars, carousel horses, motor boats, and who knows what else.

What ever happened to those PTC trains from Michigan's Adventure that were under the pavillion by the museum?

As a side note, "Infernal Combustion" was the name of the portable funhouse that appeared at Lesourdsville Lake during 2002.

Now, how to get a behind the scenes tour of Knoebels...

Hmmm...That would be an interesting suggestion for PPP.

I'll have to talk to some of my connections. I probably won't see it but hopefully find out whats in it.

I bet it would be more exciting than when Geraldo opened Al Capones vault.
