I do believe you will get ticketed if you park there and they see you go across the street to the park. Who knows they could even have your vehicle towed.
It's like commercials at the movie theater. Sure $8 is expensive to park, but do you want a clean park, rides that work, etc. ?
Your $40 or so (maybe $60 with a season pass) does not cover the daily expenses. Just like your $8 at the theater doesn't cover the nice seats, clean bathrooms (theaters keep between 50 cents and $1 on each first run ticket).
If $8 is too much, get someone to drop you off.

We did that and parked at the shopping center parking lot across the street two weeks ago on sunday. We didn't get a ticket and it didn't seem to be too much of a problem.
Yeah, it may not have been too much of a problem to you but what if somebody else decides to duplicate your idea, and then two more groups, and then four more groups if they don't get ticketed. Just because you got away with it does not mean someone else will be able to.
Like a lot of things in life, enforcement only ramps up as violations increase.
I'm not sure if this is possible now, and it would certainly be more risky, since there are now parking attendants in the main lot directing traffic.
