5yr old boy falls off ride at carnival

A 5 yr old boy fell off a ride called the yo-yo it's a swing ride at a carnival run by Coleman Bro's shows in Manchester, Ct.at 10pm tonight. Last night at the same carnival a wheel fell of a ride called the ring of fire a looping coaster type ride.

This just shows that the days of the traveling carnival escaping the regulations still exists.

Or that 5 year olds are flexible and unbuckle themselfs.

My guess is that he undid the little belt that comes between the legs & snaps on the metal bar to hold you in, and just slipped right out.

correct me if i'm wrong, doesn't the government already regulate moving carnivals???

First, we don't know what happened here. There hasn't even been a new article posted.

While the CPSC has authority over traveling carnivals, they do no inspections or do anything else of a preventative nature before an accident happens. They only act after an accident occurs. They will probably investigate this accident, issue a report, and make recommendations for corrective actions for rides of this type. Obviously, this kind of government control is very limited in it's effectiveness.

Actual inspection of carnival rides is a state by state issue. In some states it is done well, in some states it is not well done, in some states it is not done at all. In any case they inspectors cannot be a every ride every minute of the day, so much of the responsibility for safety has to rest on the ride operator.

Maybe he was 5'2" and weighed 240lbs.....

Like I have said in the past, five year olds are a lot bigger than they used to be. Chance states that the minimum height is 42" which IMO is too short. It was a 3yr old boy and the operator was drunk according to this article.

If that article is correct, I hope that guy gets a severe punishment.

Another question that does bother me, are 3 year olds allowed on a ride like that? I have a three year old, and I would be very reluctant to let her on.
