I searched, and could not find out what's up with Steel Dragon 2000. Roller Coaster Database has it listed as SBNO. Anyone know what's going?

(um.....what????) - to the above post

Anyway, that was a while ago...there was an accident (no fatalities). To my knowledge it IS in operation again. I think RCDB has just not updated that page in a while.

Sometime, a few months ago I believe, a wheel had disconnected from the train at the bottom of a hill, sending the train to a screeching halt and calling for the park to evacuate all the riders on the ride.

I dont remember if anyone was hurt, anyone have a news article link?

I remeber hearing one man was hurt, when the wheel flew off. The Wheel hit him i believe in the head. He was suppose to have been in a near by pool.

X...I still can't believe it wasn't a dream

CoasterXfreak: I'm sure he would've died if he got hit in the head with the wheel. Having seen Making of a Coaster, those wheels are massive.

Peabody, go and rent the movie "The Ring" and then you will understand that post. I think Cedar "Counter" Point may be on to something there.

CoasterXfreak was right, the wheel did fly off into a nearby pool and hit a man in the head. The man was injured, but he did not die as far as i know.

I have family nearby, and they've said nothing about it being down. Granted, I haven't really asked, either. Still, it's been some time since that accident. I would bet it's up and running. Even if not, though. Nagashima is an AWESOME place. Think CP, but even cleaner.

Right, Jeff? :)

Yes Rob....if we went back to "Cedar Point East" and SD2K was closed I wouldn't care as long as that blissful White Cyclone is open :)

I can find no evidence online of it being closed still other than a long since updated RCDB page :) *** Edited 5/14/2004 7:07:30 PM UTC by Peabody***

This is what the Nagashima Spaland Web site says about SD2K (best direct translation):

"For now, we have suspended operation. We are currently undecided concerning future operation."

You might find that a little confusing, but this is how I read it:

"The ride is closed. We do not know when it will reopen."

Then again, who knows? Maybe somebody dropped the ball and the ride is open.

Crazy...I really wonder if that's true. It was not like there was a fatility, and it IS their star ride. It's been so long since it happened, too. If they think there's really a problem and it's still closed, kudos to them for doing what they think is best for safety!

Those silly Japanese. When will they ever learn that all we want is to ride the coasters. Screw safety!

BTW, when does Robb take the Fat Camp ACE'rs to the land o' the rising sun? I want to join in the fun!!!!!! ;)

No, as of a few weeks ago, Steel Dragon 2000 is still not operational. A member from another forum visited Japan then, and was disappointed to learn that the coaster was still closed due to the incident which happened when? Around last August? I agree that's quite a long time.

Just as I thought. According to rcdb.com, SD2K has been SBNO since 8/23/03.

Come see Steel Dragon 2000 - the world's longest lawn ornament! :)

I'm actually quite surprised. But, the Japanese are meticulous to a degree unehard of in America and they are safety conscious to an extreme degree too (toweling off the rails of SD2K by hand after a rainstorm). So, in that aspect I guess it's not to surprising.

But, to me, White Cyclone is still their star attraction, not SD2K. :)

I’m not really surprised Steel Dragon has been closed this long. I mean, how long was Birdmen closed for? Years?

White Cyclone, Peabody? Fine if you like cruising around in big circles. ;)
