What are you doing taking a road trip around the USA to hit all those parks?? While your at it you could hit SFGAm. As for the top five I feel i would not be a good judge since I have not been to every park, so I cannot comment on what are the top five parks.

What kind of experiences are you looking for while on vacation? Do you own any season passes?

My suggestions are:

Cedar Point/SFWoA - they're only an hour apart. MF is an experience you'd want to try out and Villain/Big Dipper is a great wood combo at SFWoA.

Six Flags Great America - this is a must visit park. A gem in the Six Flags family. Viper and Raging Bull are a great combo you wouldn't want to miss.

Busch Gardens Williamsburg - the most beautiful park I've been to. Great rides and theming.

IOA: Great over the top themeing, not a lot of rides but the ones they have are fantastic. Close to lots of other parks.

BGW: most beautiful, well maintained, park I have been too. The rides and other attractions are all great. 4 fantastic steel coasters. Also it is close to PKD - you could hit two parks in one weekend .

CP: lots of really good coasters and great atmosphere. Plus they have Millennium Force - what other reason do you need?

Have fun!

Think about coaster tours that get you the most parks with the least hopping around the country.
Two obvious tours:
1)Central Florida:
Disney World
Epcot
Disney/MGM
Animal Kingdom
IOA
Universal
BGT
2)Ring Around Ohio:
Cedarpoint
Holiday World
SFKK
PKI
Kennywood
SFWoA
Add Ons: SFDL & PCW

Cedar Point is a great hit for the whole family, with a spectacular mix of coasters, thrill rides, smaller rides, and great things for the kids, as well as shows and such for the less adventurous members of the family. That would be my top pick, certainly. Definately a 2-3 day event if you've never been, so that you don't miss anything.

Islands of Adventure has superb coasters and fantastic theming, but if you're looking for a lot of rides I wouldn't recommend it - give it a few years yet to grow. One day would really be sufficient here, unless you pick mid-July or August when the crowds will be heaviest, perhaps.

Top 5 Choices
1)PKI-It's the Wooden and Kiddie coaster Capital of the World all in the same place with free admission to an excellent water park. They have 6 themed lands plus two over-the-top kiddie lands. The Beast and SOB are alone worth the trip which break almost every wooden coaster record including two longest coasters in the US(steel or wooden). Superb park, decent lines, family-friendly, and tons of fun. You won't be disappointed.
2)BGW-Not a lot of coasters, but has excellent atmosphere, great food, friendly staff and is everything a park should be.
3)IOA-Ditto to BGW
4)SFMM-2001's Steel Coaster Capital with the greatest selection I've ridden and unless poor service and atmosphere bothers you, you'll have a wonderful time.
5)CP-Best selection of flat rides with some great coasters and some horrible coasters which is why it's at the bottom of my Top 5. MF, Gemini and Raptor should more than make up for that though. Not heavily themed, but the lake makes a great atmosphere.

Who really cares about the first of it's kind. It doesn't really matter now. The still run the same (actually worse because they are more rough and don't have as good track design as the new ones).

Okay Advocate how bout this. SFGAm has:
An invert better than any SLC
A Hyper with more "active track" than the original S:ROS design
A wooden twister that has more than one airtime moment.
A Giant wooden out & back
A fun looper
A MEGAlooper
A boomerang with vertical towers
A launched coaster that DOES NOT beat you up
and A stand up...which is better than no stand up.

That, to me is enough to make the park GREAT as opposed to some poser parks that simply arent GREAT America.
jeremy

Anyway, back on topic, CP, PKI, and SFGAm are my personal favorite parks. Carowinds is nice and IOA is "different". Of course, there will always be a special place in my heart for DisneyLand (california).

I concur with hypersonic, come up and check out SFMW and PGA, and then check out the classic Giant Dipper at SCBB. If you come up after Bonfante Gardens opens, make sure to stop there as well. From what I hear, it's an amazing little park, not to mention they have a new Morgan Mine Train coaster and a Zierer Tivoli coaster. That's four great parks, and all in the same state as the ones you've already been to! Peace. :)

SFWoA definately. X-Flight will be opening on May 4th. Plus they have a great combo of both old and new rides. Along with some great flat rides. I also would recommend Cedar Point and Kennywood.

I also would recommend Six Flags Worlds of Adventure, and not because it's my home park!

It has a nice selection of rides, and if you have kids, they will enjoy Looney Toons Boomtown A LOT. They have great coasters, 4 great one in the last 2 years.

X-Flight should be a good ride, but don't hold it against me if it isn't!

Oh, and, if you want to avoid crowds, visit on a weekday, just like any other park. Enjoy!
