closed rides at disneyland...

i was wondering if anyone knew what rides are closed for rehab at disneyland. i will be going on march 13 and i just wanted to know what to expect. i know space mountain and thunder mountain but what else?

Call the park... no one here could possibly know this far in advance unless they've scheduled seasonal maintenance and announced it.

Indiana Jones Adventure closed through April 2.
Sleeping Beauty Castle walk-through closed indefinitely.
Space Mountain closed through 2005.
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad closed through March 9.

Even though indy will be closed at least Big Thunder Mountain might be open.

Would someone remind me why they're closing down SM for TWO YEARS??? I mean, I think it only took them ONE to build it the first time....

Yikes! Bad time to go do DL! I'm not sure why it is taking 2 years for SM...they are replacing it with an identical ride! Perhaps someone knows more than me :)

Well, y'know, the last time they built it, there's wasn't a big pesky white cone sitting on the construction site, getting in the way of everything :)

Perhaps they took a lower construction bid? I seem to recall that the reason ToT took so long [it began construction over 2 years ago] was that they accepted a lower-priced bid with a longer construction time.

But I could be wrong.

I thought it was because the track/supports for the new coaster were heavier and thus they had to build up the foundation to support the added weight, and that was why it was taking longer...well that and the cone.

Could just attach a bunch of ballons (Mickey shaped of course), and *float* the cone so they could put the new ride structure underneath...;)

Am I reading right? I thought t'was Matterhorn that sat inside the "White Cone" and not Space Mountain.

I heard a rumor that they are completely changing the track to be more like the more thrilling Space Montain in Disneyland Paris. Of course, it's just a rumor...

Not happening...same layout. As for the length of time, while the ride closed (abrubtly) last spring, that was not planned so they really didn't start doing the heavy work on it until fall as originally scheduled.

I still think they could have done things a little faster if they wanted. But considering there was extensive demo work to do, rebuilding almost the entire track, retheming the queue, running new trains with most likely new control, transport and blocking systems it's easy to see why this will take so long. It will basically be a whole new ride, that hopefully will last longer then the first version!

The Matterhorn is a coaster that's built in AND around a constructed mountain. It's not a white cone but a fairly faithful replica of the actual mountain, and the entire ride isn't entirely enclosed within it -- thus the feeling of the bobsled.

Space Mountain (and its various reincarnations) is a heavily themed coaster whose track is entirely contained within a white cone with futuristic spires on the top (Paris' isn't white, but then Paris' is radically different from the rest). The coaster runs in total darkness and is entirely within the cone.
