What would you travel for?

I was wondering... What does it take for you to go out of your way to visit a new coaster?

Obviosly most would travel for a record breaking coaster like Millenium Force, but would you travel far to ride a coaster like Talon, even if you have ridden many other B&M inverteds, or would you travel far just to ride a new Deja Vu, even when you have ridden other smaller ones...

Is this like "What would you do for a Klondike Bar?"

A new coaster has to be pretty spectacular to get me to go out of the way for it. But if I have never been to a park before a decent ride will get me there. Such as Talon at Dorney.

For me to travel out further than a couple hunderd miles, there better be more than just a few different rides. Living in the Buffalo area, I got open options, but I need good reason to travel!!!

It isn't that hard to make it to Cedar Point as that is only a 5hr drive, or Worlds of Adventure... that's like a 3.5 hour drive.

But the parks further south had better offer something that any parks near me cannot... and those reign true for such parks as Paramount Kings Dominion (Hypersonic HLC, Anaconda, & Volcano), Kings Island (Beast, Son of Beast), and Busch Gardens.

That would be worth a trip out there for the parks alone!!!! Any other park within 500-1000 miles had better offer other attractions to make the trip worth it (ie: Six Flags New England, The Great Escape, Knobles, Hershey Park... etc).

A park isn't worth the trip if most of the rides are either clones, or rides you'd find at your own local amusement park (are you listening SFDL???)!

I'm driving 1100 miles to PKD for opening day. You probably think I'm nuts, but I think it will be great! :)

Me and 2 other friends are going to SFWoA for a little trip. It's a nice 9 hour drive. But I really wanna go to that park especially with X-Flight.

If I'm going to make a long haul I like to cover a bunch of parks. Last year we visited SFDL, PCW, SFO, CP, Holiday World, SFKK, PKI, Kennywood, and Lakemont in one big swing.

This year it will be Hershey, Williams Grove, Knobels, Dorney, Great Escape, SFNE, and Coney Island.

you are driving 1100 miles to pkd, you do realize that not all of there coasters are even open opening day only like five of them

I am making a trip to SFWoA and SFGAm to ride the new coasters and to see if S:UE and V2 are the same

Well, next spring break (2002), I'm hopping a plane to Cali and hitting SFMM, KBF, and PGA. Then heading back home after about 4 days.

Last year my wife and I made the 5hr trip to CP to ride millenium force. Of course we all know that CP has a nice selection of coasters. I wouldn't have made the trip for just one coaster. We plan on another trip back to CP this July.

Right now it doesn't take much, since I haven't been to many different parks. But because of that, I like a park to have a lot of different coasters, so that I have more new things to experience at once. On the other hand, I am reluctant to travel far to check out a new coaster in its first year, because of how tempermental they can be. If I'm going to go that far, I really want the odds to be in my favor for riding! This summer we're looking at Great America, don't know yet...

I will return home in the summer to go to Great Adventure. It sux that I moved when they built their best ride. :(

1100 miles to PKD...not a bad spring break plan to me. As long as the Hypersonic is open it'd be worth it. What else would one do for spring break, sit around and do nothing? Might as well use the time for riding, and five coasters would be enough to keep me occupied for at least a weekend.

I'd travel to any park I could, regardless of their coaster types and count. As long as they have at least one good coaster worth riding, I would go. I would especially travel to a park getting something new and groundbreaking, like the new flying coaster from B&M at Alton Towers next year. I would go to Alton just for that thing, not to mention Oblivion and Nemesis. I love to travel, so it wouldn't bother me none going from park to park and place to place. That's just me. Peace. :)

I like to plot out a basic plan when I make trips. Must Stops and could hit along the way points. Also if there are two parks close to one another and I can't hit both I look at what I'd like to ride more. (ex. Lakemont vs DelGrossos) Then another time I'll hit the other one.

On our Ohio Trip last season our must hits were SFO, CP and PKI. We also hit Wyandot since it was only a little out of the way.

When we went to NE last summer our must hits were Lake Compounce, SFNE, and Great Escape. In our hotel room near Lake Compounce we saw a tv comerical for Quassy. We back tracked the 20 minutes to go there before going off to SFNE but it was closed due rain. We hit it at the very end of our trip instead.

I am going an hour out of my way in April to ride Tennessee Tornado! Can't wait! I am also right there with StandUpFan---Last fall we traveled 1200 miles to visit PKD, SFA and BGW. All in 3 days!

I think I'm going to try to hit SFGAdv, SFNE, and SFWOA this year. I used to live an hour south of Geauga Lake, but I haven't been there since Six Flags took over....when I visit my parents, CP is first on my list, and I usually don't have time to go to SFO/SFWoA while I'm there, but this year I'm buying a SF season pass, so I'll try to hit as many SF parks as I can. SFNE is about a 5.5 hr drive from me, as is SFGAdv. SFWoA is about 5 hours, but my parents still live where I grew up, so I can go anytime I visit. Also, I'm not too far from SFDL, so I'll go once or twice this year.

I must say, after seeing the Titan pictures, I really want to travel. :)
