Well can you? It's gonna take more than a herring to cut down the trees growing through this woodie. Horrifing sight.

Whouldn't they have sold the land when the park first closed, thus the woodie would have been dimolished? Its not every day you see an old abandoned theme park in you back yard that has a falling apart woodie!

That wasn't a *theme* park but a classic old amusement park that barely made it to its 100th anniversary before it closed permanently(Please see Tina's pictures in 'Chippewa Lake Park' thread). Actually, if you cut the trees down, that ride just might be in better shape than the Williams Grove Cyclone. ;)

Wow! What a coincidence. I was just scouring rcdb for photos of the Cyclone at Excelsior, and came across this jem. That thing is in terrible shape...still better than anything I've made however ;)

Tina,

Nice pictures, I like how you can just hop out on the track and get some nice tree shots...err...coaster pictures. Any idea if the trains are on the lot?

Some of the trains were still there, but are in the tunnel leading to the lift. I think they had three trains for the ride at one time. Not sure though.

The trains are gone. According to some folks at the Chippewa Lake Yahoo! Group, they were removed 6 or 7 years ago. Apparently purchased by a private collector along with the cupola to the wild mouse ride.

I wish the tumblebug would be purchased by somebody but it seems that Continental Business Enterprises (the current owners of the property) are very difficult to deal with.

I think I'll go for a walk in the woods behind my house...maybe I'll find one too!

I'm not sure what the one PTC goes to, but apparently there is one still sitting there. I know there are a few different rides that still have parts sitting there. You can't see a whole lot from the street and it's behind a trailer park so it's not easy access to get pictures.

Do you think if the tumblebug was purchased by another park they could fix it up alot and getting running???

The last time I was on a Tumblebug was in 1983 at Kings Island I miss that ride.

Funny you whould meantion that superman... my wife and I live about two blocks from the former location of Playland in North Seattle, which had a wooden coaster. Alas, the site has long since been paved over... There is a sort of nature walk that has placards about the nieghborhood and one of them has pictures of the coaster.

Here is another site with alot more pictures and more information of the park and its rides.

http://www.defunctparks.com/parks/OH/ChippewaLake/chippewa-lake.htm

I have some large money connections and have been trying to decide what to do with them and it seems to me restoring this park despite the large amount of work it would take, would be a wonderful thing! I plan an finding out as much as I can. I've decided to visit the park this year while I'm in Ohio. Now lets just hope I can get them interested in getting the ball rolling on restoring this park! *** Edited 2/1/2004 2:09:24 PM UTC by Wildfire01***

maybe they can just leave the park the way it is - as a 'theme' - and built new mega-attractions on top.
Would fit nicely with all those Halloween events.

It does look like an awesome ride with all the trees around. I just don't want the ones growing through the track. Anyone see the picture (one of those site) that shows where a fallen tree has spliced the track in two? Dilapitation will kill us all.
