Ten Loop Coaster by Vekoma

MrSkyWhirl

Ran across this coaster on Vekoma's site:

http://www.vekoma.com/rides_thrill_mega/ten_loop_coaster.htm

I searched here on CoasterBuzz for discussion on this coaster, but did not find any. If this has been discussed, just point me in the right direction!

Is this actually a new design? If not, has it been built anywhere yet?

On the site they state it is launched and uses a compact footprint - seems like this might be an attractive coaster to some parks, at least I would think. Or has Vekoma's problems with the Giant Inverted Boomerangs really hurt their reputation that much?

It looks like a fun design, but then I realized it probably would be brain-rattlingly rough.

I don't like the look of the 4 in a row barrel rolls. yowzer.

Doesn't Colossus @ Thorpe have four barrel rols in a row?

Seems like Vekoma borrowed a few things from Intamin and have developed their own hydraulic launch coaster option.

See the last little paragraph. Scary.... ;)

I was thinking Moosh that THAT aspect sounded eerily familiar to the Intamin ten-looper....but the Intamin is a chain-lift, right?

The only launched Vekoma looper I have ridden was RnRC, and that handles inversions VERY well. We'll have to see if any of these get sold...I've got a feeling Europe/Asia are more likely candidates than any of our N. American parks...

If I recall correctly, Colossus is 3 barrel rolls in a row, the a turn, then a barrel roll in the opposite twisting direction (either 3 counterclockwise then one clockwise, or the other way around, I'm fuzzy on the details now :) )

That's correct, Moosh.

This Vekoma looks like a great coaster--I'd ride it. The only problem I foresee is that most parks generally aren't looking for coasters with record-breaking amounts of inversions like they were several years ago. I could see a European park possibly wanting one, but I doubt we'll see one in the States, at least any time soon.

*Edit* - Glargh...everyone types too fast! Greg, Colossus actually has four consecutive heartlines, then a turn into a solo fifth. *** Edited 1/8/2004 4:25:24 PM UTC by Vater***

GregLeg - It has 4 in a row, then 1.

The inversions are: Loop, CR(2), cork, cork, In-line(4), in-line. The older 8-loop models (Avalancha and Monte Makaya) have a triple in-line and no extra.

Meow...this look really good, but then again so does Goudirix which I heard is rough like a motha. I wonder if they figured out the wonders of spring loaded wheel assemblies.

Colossus is rougher than going down a hill in a garbage can...

I still have the bruises from last year...

Also on that website is the "Thrill Lift" coaster... check it out. I personally would never trust my life to Vekoma that way, but I guess Vekoma thinks they can build it!

Huh, what do you know, it IS 4-then-1. I guess I got banged around more than I realized at the time ;)

I remember when we rode it, I was sitting there thinking "Ooh, hangtime. Ok, these were just thrown in for the record..." I did like it, though.

Do the words "headbanging death trap" mean anything to you. I hate Vekoma, however it looks interesting.

Cool post

You're talking about the ten looper at Thorpe Park, right? I've not heard anything about it being rough.

On the topic of this Vekoma ten looper: at least those rolls are heartlined! Vekoma's strayed away from heartlining forever! Look at the SLCs and newer flying coasters. Those rolls aren't heartlined so they're taking kind of funny.

But without constant connection to the rails, how will these things maneuver heartlines?

Yeah I am, it is rough very thrown side to side, restraints don't tighten well...and i'm no small framed man!

Dunno, SFMM's Vu is surprisingly smooth, Vekoma may have learned their lesson by now, it's actually smoother than Scream.

Ross,

I'm surprised to hear you thought Colossus was rough. Did you ride it opening season ('02) as well as last year? I rode it four times in July of '02 and didn't find it rough at all minus a few vibrations.

Did it get rough last year or did you always think it was?

This isn't the Eight or Ten Inversion model, but I've heard nothing but rave reviews for this Vekoma Looper. Taking that into account, I'd love to try the new model out. I also think that unless you've ridden this coaster, bashing it is really childish, and seeing as there aren't any currently operating...

Joe,

I agree. I didn't find Colossus to be rough. Perhaps riding in the back seats was a bit intense, but it didn't meet my definition of rough. Bouncy perhaps, but not rough.
