Moxahala Amusement Park

This place is featured in the Roller Coaster Rollback today. I've been wondering about this place. I found some recent pictures of the park site that show that quite a bit remains of this park. Kinda odd that Chippewa Lake and Idora get a lot of attention but nobody seems to talk about this.

I've heard that a carnival company uses the site for storage.

It's also curious that RCDB lists this park as "operating."

Of course it's well known that Screechin' Eagle at Americana/Lesourdsville Lake was moved from here in the 1930's.

Anybody have more information?

Those are some awesome photos!

I visited the site about a year ago and took some photos of my own. It was a neat experience and a few members of the Nolan family were nice enough to let me explore the site. There is not much left as far as rides but there is a ton of junk, old arcade machines, etc.

Nolan Amusements do indeed use part of the space to store their carnival rides and equipment.

There does not seem to be a lot of info about the park online other than what you have seen on rcdb. I tried several searches but did not have much luck. I even searched a few historical sites about Zanesville and the surrounding areas but there was little or no mention of the park. I do know the park closed in the late 70's and was auctioned off around 1981.

There is A LOT to see, and if you ever visit please get permission since the park IS on private property. You may even want to call Nolan Amusements ahead of time. It's worth the effort, especially if you are into defunct parks like me. :-)

Thanks Tina! you have some good pictures there. I wonder if I could get my hands on that old Skee-Ball machine :)

I'll have to give Nolan a try one of these days. Old amusement parks really interest me. Naturally, I prefer they be open ;)

All the parks remaining stuff was auctioned in the fall of 2002. I think Gregleg went to it.

Thats all I know and the parks original Rollercoaster the Moxahalia Cyclone is now SBNO at Lesourdsville Lake where it's been for the past 65 years now known as the Lesourdsville Lake Screechin Eagle which BTW was ranked 30th of 172 wood coasters on Mitches Wood coaster poll and is in many peoples top ten.

Chuck, who hopes to ride it again someday as it's a blast!

Oh it's definately in my top 10, Chuck. :-)

Millrace, I would like to get my hands on some of those arcade machines I saw, if they were able to be reparied.

Sadly most of that stuff has been exposed to the elements since the park closed and the buildings are not very stable in some places. The stage is still in good shape though, at least from what I saw.

Tina - thanks for the additional pics. Man, the site of that rusty old Whip car is just sad, sad, sad.....

A lot of that stuff (including some of the Whip and bumper cars) COULD be cleaned up a bit and auctioned off/donated or sold to collectors. I just hate seeing all that stuff go to waste. I guess the Nolans will do what they have to do.

I really got a laugh out of the Coke machine. I almost forgot about TAB. LOL!

Thats all very sad, with all the dust and everything. It will be cool if they cleaned up all those items and either auctioned them off or given to a museum.

i was completely blown away by the screechin eagle. it is hard for me to pick a favorite between the raven, screechin eagle, and the "srm level" legend.
