Facination is an early comeptition game. (It is said that Traver had a hand at putting the game together)
The game is very simple in concept, each person sits down in front of a fascinaition machine, the machine itself resembles the modern day Horse Race games by Bob's Space Racers. When the bell sounds you roll a ball down the alley rolls towards a target area. The target area is a 5x5 grid of holes. (Most places give you the center hole free, and put a 'bumper' there so you don't waste a shot, and it helps the ball ricochet in unpredictable directions.) Above the grid of holes is a light up backglass, with a 5x5 grid of lights. When your ball goes into a hole on the layout, the corresponding light lights up on the backglass. First player to get 5 in a row wins.
What do they win, that's the other part of the Facination game, instead of awarding prizes, the winnder recieves a specified number of Fascination Tickets, which can be saved up and traded for prizes. The prize you want is always "just a few tickets more", and by the time you accumulate enough tickets you glance over and see a better prize. This cuases people to save their tickets for future vists, and most Fascination rooms encourage the saving of tickets. What the park hopes is that the Fascination tickets will get lost during the off-season and never redeemed.
I've always thought the game was fu, and have wondered why no-one has created a modern day version of it.
