Monster 87ft Tall Wave-Swinger

Has anybody ever seen/ridden one of these?

I was surprised to learn that Zierer builds them that big. It can hold 64 Passengers at a time, with an hourly capacity of 1000 riders. Doesn't look to stable or balanced for a ride that can travel around with a carnival.

So, is the ride more exciting than a standard one, or is it about the same?

Wow! I'm not sure if they have any of these in permanent amusement parks, but they look awesome. Most parks seem to go with the shorter ones...

Wow, them're really bad ass.....

I really like Zierer Wave Swingers. Anything else is just a cheap rip-off (but I don't have any strict objection to the Yo-Yo of course). They are absolutely beautiful rides and are probably my favorite "flat" (can I call them that?).

Yea, it really looks Kick-Butt. I'm surprised that no parks in the US have installed one. Seems perfect for some of the larger parks out there like CP or Kings Island. (Both of which have smaller versions)

Hmmm.... Any other Chi-town native know how big the one at Navy Pier is? It's a heck of a lot bigger than anything I've seen at an amusment park, but I don't think it's quite that big...

The ride on the Navy Pier one, by the way, isn't exactly more exciting, but it's very different. You're so high up that you never really feel like you're going to hit anything, but this is compensated in that your seats can be twisted almost a full 360 degrees in either direction. When you time the unwinding with either the apex or nadir of the up/down motion, the whip-like affect is quite extraodinary.

Yes, probably a waste of money but the dwarfing effect is pretty neat!

Smaller ship for younger less thrillseeking riders. Big ship for us.

Sfog has both types of free fall and used to have both pirate ship and looping starship.

Reminds me of whenever Europe gets a cool new ride, and at least ONE person has to say "OMG, why can't we get anything cool like that over here?!?!?! Europe's coasters are so much better!!!!"

I want to say the Wave Swinger at Navy Pier is a Zierer Wave Swinger 40. Also, my guess is that the uber-Wave Swinger doesn't travel. The traveling swing rides are hard to keep balanced now, so I can't imagine the headache of trying to keep one of these in check. Of course, with technology the way it is you could probably create some sort of unbalance system through a computer and quickly balance people out once loaded instead of "eyeballing it." The only large Wave Swinger I know of is in Japan, which is where those pictures are from.

Anybody know what Batwing is @ SFEG? It's a swing type ride that is pretty tall. You sit side by side in a 2 person car that has wings on either side that you can control similar to flying eagles, but they barely work. I've never seen anything like it, but it's a pretty tall swing ride.

I think the Yo Yo at Indiana Beach is the best ride of that type that I've been on. It's built on a small pier over the lake. Super fun. Too bad it isn't 100' tall! ;)

That Giant Pirate Ship looks psychotic. I wonder why it has two sides (does the park really get that crowded?), and why they have a smaller (regular) one right next to it. Why would anyone ride it with that monstrous thing next door?
