Now THAT's what I call a Skycoaster!

Hey folks,

Forgive me if this has been brought up in another thread.

I was just doing a search on Skycoasters and found these particular links.

How cool would that be to swing out over the Royal Gorge like that? I mean, the gorge is 1, 200 feet below you when you swing out over it.

I have walked over the bridge and the thought of doing a skycoaster that hangs out over that gorge is amazing.

Anyone ridden it yet?

-Sean (who was just in Colorado a few weeks ago and would have probably made the stop to Canon City if he had known about this one)

Earlier this summer I saw a billboard showing the new skycoaster, but I hadn't heard that it swung over the gorge. One really can't comprehend the height (or is that depth?) of the gorge unless they have been there. I've always been a fan of the incline railway.

Arrrrrgggg! I drove right though Canon City on the way to Durango, CO this June. All though I probably wouldn't have ridden it anway.

Sounds crazy... any pictures?

I love Skycoasters, I can only imagne that the visuals of the Gorge will make the thrill all for the better!

The speed works out to about a 100' tall acutal Skycoaster, but the swing over the canyon must be awesome.

Looks great, Sean...but having coonquered the 300 footer at Kissmmee [you were there!] I would have preferred it being attached to the bridge so I could freefall most of those 1,200 feet!

I rode that earlier this summer! It was my first skycoaster, but it was awsome. It is only 100 feet tall, but it swings you out over the caynon and it is crazy! Cheap too, 15 bucks a person for however many people.

mOOSH, ya beat me to it. Hey, speaking of Royal Gorge, wasn't that one of the first places people started bungee jumping? I think they showed it on "That's Incredible" back in the early 80's.

Yes, Eric, that was the place and the show! I always think of That's Incredible when I see the Royal Gorge.

Yeah, they have a sign there that says there was a bungee jump record set there, right next to the one that says "No Fishing From the Bridge." That's quite a long fish line.

I can't even imagine swinging on a Skycoaster over that gorge... yikes!

Looks great. BTW, did you know that they are planning to put a thrill attraction of that sort near the Hoover Dam? It probably wont be built very soon though.

I don't know about bungy jumping in the states but as far as the world goes it was invented by a Kiwi, A. J. Hackett. The oldest operating bungy jumping location is outside of Queenstown, New Zealand. It's off a bridge, although I can't remember the bridges name. When I was there I jumped off the Skipper's Canyon Bridge because it is much taller than the other one located there.

He got the idea for bungy jumping from South Pacific tribes (not sure which one(s) exactly) that as a ritual tie vines to their ankles and jump off small towers. It's a right of passage thingy for the young males and they had video of it at his shop in Queenstown. Talk about freaky, these people actually graze the ground before being yanked back up. Not quite the bounciness of bungy and looks quite painful.

I know this isn't on topic, but someone brought it up and I'd thought I'd enlighten those who want to know.
