Today there was something special going on in Blackpool. Jordan F1-driver Ralph Firman took his car onto the tracks of the Big One hypercoaster !

The park and the Jordan team had been working on this promotion stunt for over a year. This included many tests with both the ride and a special designed chassis for a real F1 car.

The stunt was part of the opening of the refurbished karting ride, now named "Jordan Grand Prix"
Ralph Firman drove the first lap and got a podium celebration including champagne !

What it doesn't say though is if it made it through the complete circuit. Pretty cool either way.

I wonder how long before the wheels are taken off this one

(I know, it's way too easy but someone had to say it) :)

With all of that knowledge you would think they would have found a way for the car to actually propel itself along the track rther than just riding on top of a train Chassis.

I think CPfanatic you mean "With all of that knowledge you would think they would have found a way for the trains on the PMBO to run round the track smoothly".

....wondering how long the coaster had to be out of service to attach the car tot he tracks, and were any modifications needed for the computer control systems, and, as jimmybob (sorta) said: "How do I get a ride"....:)

It was craned onto the track in the morning, and re-opened, I think, around the mid-afternoon.

Bizarre. Why was this done - promotion for what and why? I'd be in line thinking ... dude, get this thing off of the tracks so I can ride the coaster.

It was promotion for their re-vamped Go-Kart track which has received electric pick-ups, new cars and is now themed* as a Grand Prix circut.

* Themed 'Blackpool style'

Well, I liked Valhalla, Alice in Wonderland, Trauma Towers, the cave darkride, the mine ride, etc.
Blackpool has a decent collection of darkrides, all perfectly themed and maintained.

Just think how bad the capicity would be even running 3 cars! With three trains you may get 50 people an hour!

Maybe if they made a fake f-1 car that seated 6 people it would be way cool. Or they could make a ride like those rocket cars at disneyland where ur just on a flat track and go like 100 around an oval or something and the driver gets to control the speed with a pedal and brake.
