A "miracle" at SFA
Today I went to take my break and went to the employee cafe by way of High Seas and I saw people onboard Typhoon Seacoaster. I believe this is one of the few times its run this year. Maybe if we all cross our collective fingers, it'll keep operating.

I was forunate to ride Typhoon Seacoaster last year. I really enjoyed the ride, especially the backwards bunny hop. My dad even enjoyed the ride and he is usually afraid of heights. Sure, I didn't tell him how high the last drop was, but he still enjoyed it.

I know that *part* of the problems with TSC were the excessive staffing requirements (same as given for running one side of BatWing)....what OTHER problems they have with TSC, I don't know...(other than too much time spent in those blasted turntables). Great idea, poor execution....

Typhoon SeaCoaster is mildly fun, but not particularly worth the nearly guaranteed long wait due to the ride inevitably breaking down just about every day (that it's open). Liz and I were in line for it once last year, and as soon as we neared the platform it broke down. It reopened about 15 minutes later, and we were soon on our way. As our boat stopped on the turntable at the end of the semi-circular tunnel (the turntable is located directly underneath the small, conical 'hut' roof on the left-most tunnel opening), we apparently weren't quite centered on it, because the boat's front end hit one of the tunnel's wooden supports on the way to facing forwards again--all while the turntable operator was sitting at the control panel watching. The ride was of course E-stopped, and two maintenance folks showed up 10 minutes later to push our boat back into the center of the turntable. Since the turntable had turned a bit more than the boat (because of the boat stopping at the support column), when it came to a stop the boat was facing forward, but slightly shy of perfectly straight on towards the 3-foot dip back into the concrete trough outside the tunnel. When the turntable op was given the green light (or the thumbs-up, or whatever), the ride was started again and we began to inch forward...and promptly derailed, the front end of our boat hanging about 2 feet in the air. The same two mantainance folks had to lift the front end of the boat and drop it back down onto the track with a thud. Finally, we were on our way again to complete the ride, but not before stopping on the final lift for another 3 or 4 minutes, no doubt to wait for another misguided boat behind us.
Come to think of it, now that I've written this nice little story, Typhoon SeaCoaster was more entertaining this particular time. Unpredictability and possible danger can certainly enhance an otherwise dull ride experience. Now TAER IT DOWN!

I got to ride it the Sunday after July 4th. I have two problems with the ride. One: they dont play any music/sound effects in the tunnels. That alone would instanly make the ride five times better. Two: they have SIXTEEN boats but I dont think I've ever seen even HALF of them running at any given time. In fact, I dont think that their current blocking systems could even allow that.

TS did run today, but unfortunately got stuck again while approaching the last turntable:( They did continue testing the rest of the night however and it ran fine from what I could see. Man, after working my shift out in the sun all day, I could've really used a ride! Luckily, I was the one who got wet in the upper half of Penguin's Blizzard River. Jeremy, I did see them run eight boats simultaneously last year on TS, but I don't know if this was the case all the time as I couldn't make it to the park for a large part of the summer. To the person who asked, yes Vahalla and Sea Coaster share the same technology.

It's really a shame this ride doesn't operate more reliably. TSC is a really neat, unique and charming ride. The one time I've been on it, I had a great time, and my friend didn't realize it went backward. Good times. If it doesn't work, tear it down and put something just as good if not better in its place. It's so sad to see the ride blistering in the sun when it's (usually) not running.
