Questions

Never been to SFO or had any desire to till now-I was looking at some of the construction pics and have a ?? for anyone who has been there before
that ride "The Fall"--is that a Demon Drop copy cat? Looks like it from a distance--
also-how far a drive is it to SFO from CP??
or how far a drive is to to SFO from Columbus??

The free fall ride you see in Mr. Hyde's Nasty Paint Job, er, Fall, and it is an Intamin free fall like Demon Drop. I forget which park it came from, but I think it killed someone at the other park when a car came back down the elevator. Regardless if that was the ride, you'll notice none of them operate with a car under the tower until the next one has creeped over the edge.

You can get to SFO in about 90 minutes from Cedar Point, I would guess. Regardless of where you're coming from, the traffic in and out of that area sucks like a Dirt Devil. From Columbus, I'd take I-71 to I-271 and exit at... someone help me out here... I can't picture the sign. I think it's Solon. Then you spend time going through that town, Solon, I think and the traffic sucks.

Yes, Jeff is correct. The closest exit to the park is getting off at Solon (Interstate 91). Less than a half a mile down 91 is I-43, also known as Aurora Road, which will get you to SFO 4 miles and a traffic jam later.

The ride was originally located at Six Flags Great America. The accident I think happened in the late 80's and killed 3 people.

Why did they move that ride that had killed people to sfo and why did they paint it so ugly! I go on that ride sometimes but I think they should just plow over it and build somethin new.

I completely agree with demolishing that hunk 0' junk. It hasn't been mentioned yet, but frequent visitors to Geauga Lake might remember times Mr. Hyde's broke down. Some may even remember being at the top. As the legend tells it, the computer is programmed incorrectly and it breaks down. Why keep a ride that only causes problems???

Actually (I wish Dave A. was a member here... he'd know this), if I remember correctly, it was reprogrammed or new control systems were installed within the last few years.

I think you're right there, Jeff. I remember Dave (or someone) saying that MHNF got a new control system when it was installed at GL/SFO. If not when it was installed, soon after.

FYI - when located at SFGAm, MHNF was known as The Edge.

I remember so many times when this thing was installed it getting stuck. Some kids even got injured. All over local news. This year I think it got better so I agree that a new control system may have been put in. I still think it should go though.

I can't remember the name of the company, but they have a website that tells about the new controls. It's funny how in 1997 and 1998, the ride was down more often than it was up. In 1999, a sign was posted out front saying "This attraction open 12 noon to 8 p.m. daily". I think they should just take the loss on it (it was used after all) and build an Intamin Giant Drop or S&S tower of some sort. Of course, it couldn't be taller than 180 feet........

Also, MHNF operated at Rocky Point Park after its stint at SFGAm and before its arrival at Geauga Lake. Premier bought the ride at auction when Rocky Point closed in 1996.

This ride was in fact the Edge at Six Flags Great America and during the 1985 season there was in fact an accident that injured 4 people. Marriot owned the park at the time and had a class action lawsuit on its hands. The next year was the year the park debuted as Six Flags. The ride from there on out was closed expect for a few times. I rode it before the accident but wouldnt go near it after the accident. They finally got rid of it because of the negative publicity it recieved. In my opinion this ride should not be operating at any other park. The sad thing is that Villian states that Premier bought this ride at an auction. They should know the history of this ride and not put it back at a Six Flags park.

MHNF was bought from a defunct park in New England. I don't remember the name, but Premier bought several rides at an auction that the old park had before it met the bulldozer.

As far as i know, noone was killed on the ride ever. THe park claims it is a rumor about its past life.

It breaks down everyday because of the sensors on the track at the bottom. In the sun they get fried everyday and kind of flip out. They don't sense the passing cars and freeze the system. So the ride ops have to manually push the cars back to the loading position from time to time. That's how the accident happened last year. A ride op was pushing a car back to position and another was unloading behind it, when the moveing one slipped out of control, BANG, a collision. Injuring the poeple trying to vacate the stationary car.

Personally i think that the park is going to try to ride out one more season with this bundle of misery. But noone in the park likes it and it is a real pain in the... well you know.

No one was actually killed on the ride just injured.

That is correct. I still have the article clipped out of a newspaper from when that accident occured. I can try to have it scanned and posted on the net if anyone would like to see it. NO ONE WAS KILLED. They all had minor injuries considering the car fell about 50ft or so. The ride was reworked and has not had an accident since (to my knowledge).
