Fire Dragon's Immelman

Can someone describe to me what the difference between Fire Dragon's wrap around Immelman and a regular Immelman is?

The exit? A regular immelman just tosses you out in the general direction from where you came. Fire dragon's wrap-around immelman is like immediately diving into a pretty intense helix right after you flip. It eliminates the "down time," if you will.

What's weird about it is I've ridden both types of Immelmans (Immelmen?) and didn't notice very much of a difference at all. There really isn't a much varience in intensity IMO.

It's a grey area for me. There's no difference in the actual inversion, it's all in the pullout.

It's tighter than a "regular Immelman" but more shallow than half a Cobra Roll. I'm not sure that warrants a whole new element name in my book.

Look at that second link Maddie posted. Just mirror the first part of the inversion and it's awfully close to a Cobra Roll.

It's half of a shallow Cobra Roll followed by a helix, if you ask me.

I think the "wrap around" part comes from the fact that wraps back around itself (duh) - no Immelman I can think of offhand does that. But I'd still argue that it's not quite an Immelman in the first place.

kinda looks like the Sidewinder found on SLCs, except headache free :).

It's more different than the difference between a loop and an incline loop to me (in terms of layout and experience). There're actually quite a few elements that I've always found to be "pretty close." A cobra roll is essentially an immelman-> dive loop, a batwing is the opposite. Heck, a loop, a corkscrew and a zero-g are the same inversion pulled out to the sides (try it with K'nex or whatever). Never having really been a fan of the inversion experience, they all seem pretty much the same and pretty much "blah" to me.

Houston Thrills - I was thinking the exact same thing...

Either the pic was altered, or the ride wasnt running how its supposed to be. The ice train had already went through the loop, but the fire hadnt went into the loop yet.

Yeah I noticed that too. but that would be an awesome job of altering a pic. So maybe it just wasn't running right.

Edit: (Off topic) ... what happened to the cool water on this ride? Or did I just miss it this summer?

Ok so I never really gave thought to these two kinds of immelman, but I see the point now. So, wouldn't Talon's immelman be the "wrap-around" immelman?

It seems to me that a regular Immelman exits at an angle 90 degrees to where it entered, so Talon's would seem to be a regular one.

While Talon's Immelman is followed by a helix, the helix doesn't wrap around the Immelman.

I think Immelman's (Immelmen?) in general head out at closer to a 135 degree direction change from the original orientation. Don't really have any good pix to support this, but I really thought Montu's and Alpie's and Bear's were around there.

It wasn't altered. They just weren't dueling.

Remember, the photo was taken from an aircraft, so getting the plane to stay in one spot long enough to get two identical exposures would be pretty difficult ;)

I waited for 7.5 hours through four tornado warnings and all I have to show for it is this lousy kiddie coaster credit.

90 degrees woudl be a sidewinder. Immelman's come out at what usually amounts to a turn back on themselves although its not 180 degrees

A true Immelman is a 180 degree turn back into itself. This isn't possible on a coaster as you cant simply travel through track.

Sometimes the trains don't duel if one of them is held up too long. They unlock the restraints every now and then to move a large passenger to the larger seats or measure a kid that may have snuck by without meeting the height requirement(or looks borderline).'

Most of the time the trains duel, though.

I have seen them run an odd number of trains, two on one and one on the other....not often, but I have seen it....this ain't LR, the controls ARE separate...;)

Is there only one set of controls on LR? Can they run an odd number of trains?
