Rolling Thunder

I just downloaded a POV video of the ride and I noticed that it is in TERRIBLE condition! Why doesn't SF care about this coaster? It's very unique! They either need to pay attention to it or sell it to a park that will give it the TLC it deserves!

Man, where did ya get that????!! That was my favorite ride at SFGAm!!!! I really wanna see my baby in this weakened condition.

Wait, I was talking about Rolling Thunder at SFGAd. Though, I'm not sure if SFGAm has a ride named Rolling Thunder.

Rolling Thunder at Six Flags GAdv is in bad shape. Since I have been going there they haven't really seemed to care about the condition of it. I wonder why that is.

It's a bobsled type ride isn't it??

if it is, that's all that counts. It'll still bring back memories.

The Rolling Thunder that was at SFGAm back in the 80s is now at Great Escape as the Alpine Bobsled.

It should have a renovation. A paint job and a ebuilt structure. They should also throw in a CCI or GCI to add to the collection.

Rolling Blunder, er, Thunder, at SFGAdv is a wooden racer. It looks like it could be a decent ride, but was in REALLY sad shape last time I was there, in '99.

Rolling Thunder has been in sad shape for as long as I remember going to Great Adventure. I've never seen it racing. It is a shame. The only woodie there and its unique and it looks to have so much potential.

Speaking of Rolling Thunder, was there ever a time when they ran one side backwards? I seem to remember hearing about that one time. Also, when did they modify/change the trains with headrests and new lap bars thus getting rid of their "no single rider" policy

I normally don't post but this one I actually know something about so I will. Living close to GAdv. my whole life has allowed me to ride rolling thunder countless times. I can assure you that in the 80's they did in fact run one side backwards. They were also racing (forward) until the mid 90's. Now it seems only one side is running. Fortunately, it is the good side. This ride has amazing potential considering how good it still is now. However, part of what makes it so good is that it scares you because of the condition it is in. A paint job and a little assurance that it is still safe would be nice (some oil also) but if they fix it up too much, it could lose it's charm.

On the video, it is racing.

I have rode it when they were racing, but I have never seen them run a train backwards. That must have been during a time when I took a few season break from going there. It is a good ride. I think they should refurbish it and get the other side running. It was best when they were racing.

This is one great coaster that has been badly neglected. The neglect didn't come from Six Flags. In the late 70/s and early 80s this coaster was one of the best. Well maintained and working well. It regularly raced and most weekends there were special times and events to ride it backwards. Circa 1992 enter Time Warner as the new park owners. This company raped the park and did as little maintenance as possible on anything. Finally they sold the company to the now Six Flags corporation who is again taking pride in the park, doing the maintainace, and upgrades necessary. Unfortunately it is probably about 10 years late for Rolling Thunder as the rumors have it comming down next year. I for one hope it isn't true because it is a classic coaster and will be lost forever.

Rolling Thunder has always been like that. From the start to finish it sounds like the NYC Subway, and the paint is chipping everywhere. I think they shoud close it, refurbish it, then add another CCI next to it. SFGadv is great with steel, but sometimes you just gotta get out of those over-shoulder restraints!!
