Top Thrill Dragster CAD

Since there has been a huge frenzy or TTD since its debut, i thought i would make it in CAD and show it to everyone. Here is what i have so far, and there will be more coming soon, seeing as i have to fix the size of the seat, do the center cart, the last cart, and then last but not least, the layout!

Wow! Sweet stuff man. I just got out of technical drafting(first year of drafting), and i hated the class. So even though i wanted to design coasters, its not for me. But i remember CAD very well, and just by the curves and detail in the train i know it took you a while.

Great job, i cant wait to see the back!

What program are you using, Autocad?

I'd be really impressed if it were 3D :)

Very Cool. I almost forgot how cool ACAD drawings can be. I tried doing an arrow coaster-car in Pro-E but I didnt complete it.

Not bad, I little work needs to be done to it, and whtat Chernabog says is true, it would be nice to get it in 3d. Having had 4 years of CAD in Highschool, I appreciate the detail you've put into the drawing. Maybe you could put the cad file online. What version of CAD do you use. I have AutoCAD 2000 on my PC. It's just the demo version of it.

Back in highschool I created a very short coaster that consisted of a basic lift hill, a banked half-helix, double drop, and then a banking back to a straight portion of track. It was basic, but still very difficult.

GamRCFreak: I will be putting it online after i get the proportions correct and everything. I will update the pictures periodically as i advance farther into it.

Jeff- If you could give me any help it would be deeply appreciaited, my sn is Protoaxisdesign and I will be off and on. I know the seats look way wrong, i think the only thing i really spent alot of time on was the wheels, and the attachment on the back of the train. Like i said, any help would be appreciated.

I tried my hand at making it, and other coasters, using both AutoCAD and SolidWorks5 this past trimester in my CAD class (since school got out today), but they weren't coming out that great, lol.

Anyways, looks great so far, lots of detail, but like Jeff said, it is off in a couple areas, but it's all good, lol. Can't wait to see the finished product.

Other than the chairs, what other things are not proportioned correctly? I want to get this as close as possible to the real thing. And if anyone has any good views showing the ttd train (front, back, side, views etc etc) it would be deeply appreciated.

This is the coaster I did solo in High School this year for CAD, I also drew up planes for a train, but ran out of time to model that part.

It took me around 3 months to draw up the station, trains, supports, queue, cross overs, and the actual layout. And that was just in 2d on Autocad. In the next 4 months I did actual modeling instead of solid modeling on the computer, since I am not a great Solid Modeler yet.

If you are running Autocad let me know if you need any help, I love drawing in it and have found some shortcuts.

I build robots. I find No Limits to be more rewarding where designing coasters is concerned, if less accurate. I usually don't get a whole lot of enjoyment out of CAD models, though.
